Age 9: I realized I loved books, I could unscramble a college level math problem in under twenty seconds, but kept my love for math to myself. I had a photographic memory and could see the detail on a leaf after it rained, all the beads of rain and the reflection in the beads. But then I lost my four year old brother to the disease that was eating up every kid in my town. When I didn't contract the disease, we thought I was the lucky one. So I kept it to myself.
Age 10: I had heard about these powers, the abilities that were causing unintentional devastation across the nation, but I never received them. We thought I was one of the 'unheard of's, the one that didn't get the power but was immune to the disease. How wrong and naïve we were.
Age 10, Day 5: I burnt the hand of a boy I liked in school, simply by squeezing his hand too hard. He had been scared but when asked by the teacher how his hand got a nasty red, tiny puss filled blisters, he lied. He told her he snuck into the lunch ladies kitchen and stuck his hand on the stove, trying to get more food. Him and his sister became my best friends when I realized I wasn't alone.
Age 11, day 66: I was running around outside in our fenced in backyard with my dad, my step mom inside cooking dinner. We had been rough housing and I got frustrated that my dad could so easily over power me. With a flick of my fingers I sent him flying, his back hitting a tree. He had been so nervous to tell Merida that he swore me to secrecy. "I can keep you safe."
Day 325: Nico, Eliza and I were swimming in the lake behind Eliza's house when I saw a dream of Danny's, simply by touching his shoulder. "You're like us," Danny whispered with wide eyes when he felt me seep into his mind.
Age 12: I stopped going to school a long time ago because there were no more kids, and stayed home while the world unraveled around me. All of the children had been taken away by men in black, or their parents had put them into hiding. My dad took me up into hiding when I had gotten so angry that my hot blood sent the power down inside the house, after I got into an argument with Merida, my eyes turned violet. I spent a year there because keeping my abilities from her wasn't possible anymore.
