Start Of a New Era

     "I can't do this anymore," Merida sneered as she stared out the windshield. "You are an unnatural being, Emberly."

     "Where are you taking me?" I asked her as she drove me further and further away from my safe haven, where I had been the last year or so.

     "Somewhere you should have been three years ago," Merida answered and I felt dread slowly sink into my stomach, latching onto my spine and keeping me rooted in the passenger seat of her car. The blue backpack she had shoved into my lap was slowly starting to feel like bricks.

     "Take me to Nico," my words had meant to come out harsh and demanding but they cracked and showed her weakness. When all she did was shake her head my words came back with more force, "Take me back!"

     "No!" Merida yelled at me. I had seen her angry, but I had never seen her this angry. "Your father should have called the special forces a long time ago."

Lena! Being Eliza and Nico mom, she was the only person that would have cared enough to take care of me, "Merida, take me to my Lena!"

     "You think she wants you?" Merida asked, her voice sounding disgusted at my loud suggestion. "You're a monster, Emberly. No one will want you, not ever."

      As we rolled up to a red light I looked over at Merida just as she shoved a wet cloth over my mouth and nose, shoving my head into the head rest with such force I thought I heard my brain rattle inside my head. As I grabbed her arm and tried to pull away, her fear was controlling her, making her stronger while the sharp smell that I was breathing in was slowly making my muscles feel like jelly.

    All I could think about was where she was taking me, one of two places that my father swore her not too. I didn't know which was worse, becoming a solider and fighting a war I did not ask for or becoming a testing guinea pig.

     "Never let them get you, Emberly May." He said to me as he drifted in and out of consciousness. His fight was over, but mine was just beginning.

     No one will want you, not ever.
