"In the digital universe known as Second Life, a vibrant global community transcends boundaries of cultural, ethnic and generational nature: with unlimited possibilities to explore, make or sell anything one can imagine, stories of individual empowerment abound. " -- Draxtor Despres (documentarist)

Second Life (SL) is a 3D Multi-User Virtual Environment (MUVE) launched by Linden Lab back in 2003 (yes, it's true: this virtual world has been around for 15 years).

"Multi-User Virtual Environments (MUVEs) are environments that have been digitally created to allow users, through the use of avatars, to interact with each other and the digital environment." In the case of Second Life, that also means that all users can create anything: clothes, hair houses, furniture, vehicles, plants, animals, animations, scripts, and books. In fact, the vast majority of content we find on Second Life was created by users, not by Linden Lab.

Those who do not want (or do not know how) to create content can express their creativity in many other ways. One of the most popular activities in Second Life - accessible to even the newest of users - is taking pictures of inspiring places and avatars (also known as virtual photography).

The enormous control users have over their experience on Second Life has attracted a large number of creative people to this virtual environment - as well as people who only found out they were creative once they've started using Second Life.

Can this virtual creative hub help writers?
