Inside, he smiles because not only does he have a brain, Angela Daye also has one.

On the outside, though, he keeps a straight face because it's what he's been taught to do. Show no emotion unless you want to gain something from it.

"Yes," he says flatly. "That's an excellent idea."

He runs through plans in his head. Some he rules out, some he pulls apart for errors. But before he can open his mouth, Amelia is already speaking.

"Angie can press the button," she says, "whilst I'm near the fire exit, and then whilst there's loads of confusion, we slip out."

He can see the mistakes immediately. "But we need to get Angie out first, and the fire exit is an exit so surely there'll be loads of guards."

She picks at her lip, glancing at her sister who is already looking better by the second. "True," she says eventually, but he can see that she doesn't like him correcting her. He shrugs it off and tells himself that he doesn't care.

"We need to cause a bigger distraction," he tells the others. "Angie, can you reach the button from there?"

She stretches out across the bars, and her fingers scrape the glass. "Yep."

"Good. You press the button, I'll tell the guards there's a huge fire near the entrance, get the key, and then we slip out."

"That's a better plan," Angie answers.

"Great. Let's do it," he replies quickly before Amelia can object.

Angie grimaces, pulls her arm back and strikes the glass with all her strength. He smiles inside as the piercing wail starts, and he's still smiling even as he rushes over to a confused guard.

"There's a fire over by the main foyer!" he babbles, perfecting the high squeak of fear in his voice, and perfecting everything else, including slipping his hand into the guard's pocket and whipping the key out. The guard disappears down the hallway having suspected nothing.

He's grinning inside by the time he's slipped the key into the lock, and Angie stumbles wildly out of it like a crazed deer bolting for safety. The quartet rush for the exit, and he gulps down the fresh air once they're outside.
