Well beasties, it's time for another chapter of the origin of your favorite charming monster! Now, we're going to pick up a little while after the events in the previous chapter(You know what I'm talking about), so I hope that you enjoy it.....

It had been a long hard day for Curtis. After he had left the area of the slums where he had spent most of the seven years of his life, he had went out into the city.

There, he had spent most of the day wandering around in complete captivation at everything around him. He had never been in the city by himself before, there had always been the hand of someone else to guide him and keep him from wandering away, but now he was by himself.

He spent most of the day exploring the city, which involved going into shops to look at the treasures inside until someone shooed him out, climbing over fences, and even playing a game with some other children.

But things began to look different when night fell.

Now, there were barely any people out on the wide cobblestone streets, leaving them frighteningly empty. There was little sound, except for some drunken singing from a few blocks down. The few people who were on the streets looked nasty and rough, with ragged clothes and bleary eyes, much like the monsters he had heard about in stories......

Curtis walked down the empty streets, terrified nearly out of his mind.

What if he was caught by a devil or a witch like the children in the story? His Uncle always said that there were horrifying beasts that roamed the night, and if little children were found outside they'd be eaten up.....

Shuddering at the thought, he continued down the street, lost in thought until he bumped into someone.

Looking up, he saw a dirty, ragged looking man with hair that could have been any color except that it was black as coal powder.

He grinned at Curtis through a mouth of crooked, yellow teeth.(Monster teeth, Curtis thought)

"Well, well, what do we have here?"

Curtis tried to turn and run away, but the man grabbed him by the collar of his coat.

"Now, now, don't run away pretty boy." He reached into Curtis's pocket and withdrew a leather wallet.

"No that's mine!" Curtis tried to say, but the man laughed.

"Too bad, pretty boy. It's mine now!" Then the man reached into the pocket of his shirt and withdrew a glinting silver knife.

"Now, let me see. I could get a good price for that fine coat you have there..." Then he looked at Curtis's terrified face and smiled. "And maybe for you as well, you're such a handsome young boy, it'd be easy to find someone who would pay a fair price to have one with such lovely green eyes..."

Horrified, Curtis wriggled out of the man's grasp, leaving the man clutching the coat in his hand. The man tried to grab him, but Curtis did something in an instant. He bit down on the man's hand, not stopping until he tasted the man's hot red blood flowing through his mouth.

Cursing, the man released his grasp leaving Curtis enough freedom to run.

As he ran, he could hear the man behind him, saying the most horrible curses, but eventually those faded away as he lost him.

Now alone in an alleyway, he stopped for breath, panting from exhaustion. Eventually he found somewhere to lie down and try to go to sleep, feeling more alone and miserable than he had ever been.

The next morning, he awoke stiff and sore from sleeping on the hard ground the whole night. And he was still tired from waking up at night at every single noise out of fright.

As he sat up, his stomach growled and he winced. He hadn't eaten anything the previous day, and he was really hungry.

But where would he get food? He had no money, so he didn't know how he would get anything without it.......

Just then, a well-dressed man walked by the alleyway, carrying a gold pocket watch in his hand. Seeing the man, an idea formed in Curtis's head.

Once before, he'd seen children steal apples from a market stall when he was out shopping with his mother, so how would taking something from this man be any different?

Creeping out of the alley he followed the man down a busy street. If he could just reach into his pocket without anyone seeing him then he'd be fine.....

But just as he was almost to the man, someone tugged on his shirt. Turning around, he saw a little girl, with wild brown hair, and brown eyes that were narrowed in anger. She wore a white blouse, long brown skirt, and an over-sized green jacket.

Confused, he let the girl drag him out of sight of the man into a space behind two buildings.

After a moment, the girl spoke. "Haven't you got a lick of sense in your head? He could have seen you and then you'd have ended up in the workhouse or worse."

She glared at him, looking for him to respond.

Curtis replied nervously. "I didn't know, I was hungry so I thought if  I took from him I'd be able to get some money...."

The girl's eyes seemed to soften at his response, and she reached into the pocket of her jacket and pulled out a loaf of bread, which she promptly broke in half and gave one to Curtis.

After a while where they promptly ate, the girl spoke up. "Hey, you got a name runt?"

Okay, that was a bit rude, but he eased up at her offer of conversation. "My name's Curtis, not runt."

The girl smiled back, showing her crooked front teeth. "I'm Sam."

After a moment, she asked something else, that made Curtis pause. "What are you doing out here, don't you have a family or something?"

Oh yeah, there was that. Curtis hesitated before answering. "No, they didn't want me anymore, so now I'm here." Sam was silent for a moment before replying.

"Same with me, my daddy's gone now, and I didn't want ta end up in the poorhouse, so I'm here now."

They didn't speak for a while, too caught up in painful memories before Same spoke. "Hey, maybe we can be each other's family."

Curtis looked up, hardly believing his ears. "Really?"

"Yeah, we can help each other out here, maybe teach you some stuff, and we can look out for each other, no matter what okay?"

"Yeah!"

So the two new friends smiled at each other, sealing their promise with a handshake, but little did they know they had found a good thing together. And good things, they always will come to an end.....

Yeah my first official partner in crime, or friend as most call it was a girl who went by the name Sam. Despite her tough exterior, she was actually really sweet even if she'd usually try to beat the shit out of you if you hurt her. And in the five years I was on those streets, we actually became close! *smiles* And yes, I know what you're thinking, was she my first crush? Well yes.....

But my first love didn't come until much later, but I'm gettin' ahead of myself.......

Well beasties, I'm done another chapter! I hope you enjoyed this one!

Now, next chapter, we'll be taking a time skip about five years from this point where we will be meeting with the very person who his mother warned him about....

His father. And he's been looking for someone, so he'll be meeting with the rest of Curtis's family(just a warning, the next chapter will have a lot of gore in it)......

Anyway, I'll see you soon beasties.....
