Hermiones pov

It was two days before the winter ball. It was an exciting thing really, after everything that had been going on everyone couldn't wait. Me and pansy had went dress shopping just last week and picked out the most beautiful ball gowns I've ever seen. We've been hiding them from the boys though, wanting it to be a surprise.

I walked into the main hall to see preparations being made to make sure the hall was completely ready, my little friend Oscar was with me. That's what I decided to name the cat. I had brought it to Mcgonagal the day after I found it and after we checked round we found out it didn't have an owner so she insisted I keep it to make sure it is well looked after, it only seems to be a wee kitten but he's full of energy. "Hey Mione!" Astoria said,running over to me, she quickly made a B-line to Oscar "oh who's a little cutie...You are yes you are!" She said, hugging him

"you'll get yourself all covered in cat hairs Asty!" I said with a laugh "so how's the decorating coming along "it's so tiring, dean near whacked me up the head with a Christmas tree for fuck sake" she said with a sigh, I giggled "how lovely" "have you seen Theo? We were meant to meet at 2? We've to go down to hogsmade and pick up some extra decorations...oh never mind speak of the devil" she said,

I turned round to see Theo with his winter coat on and holding astorias cloak "did I hear my name being mentioned?" He said with a smirk "don't flatter yourself Theodora, we were only talking about how you are always late" I said with a laugh, he sent me a death glare which caused me to laugh more "have fun guys! I said, waving them off.

I walked over to a couple of boxes and began to unpack them, when something came flying at me. I fell against the wall as it knocked me down, I heard the stifled laughs of dean and Ron come from the corner. I decided I would go help somewhere else and as I walked out hit them both with ginnys  famous bat boogy hex. You could hear their screams form a mile away, I went for a walk round the school.

When I had woke up this morning Draco wasn't there, I didn't think to much into it. He probably needed time on his own. I pulled my cloak round me more and the clicking of my boots on the ice could have been heard a mile away. I took a walk down to the black lake to see two figures sitting on the ground, they appeared to be sitting on blankets but how they hadn't gotten soaked was beyond me. I noticed the familiar figure of my brother and shouted over

"Blaise? Is that you?" I asked, running over "Hermione hey!" Blaise said, I seen Draco beside him "I haven't seen you all morning" I said kissing Draco's cheek "is everything okay?" "Yea its fine, umm just talking" Blaise said, I could tell I was invading something important "oh umm, okay. I'll see you later? Bye love you both!" I shouted as I ran up the hill, that was strange. I decided to go searching for pansy

"so they were just sitting there?" Pansy questioned "yea I know, it was strange Draco didn't say a word...I feel like I've done something but I'm not sure what" I said, pansy had been at my dorm for the past hour and half, Oscar was curled up in her lap "not weird at all" she said sarcastically just as the door swung open to see a particularly moody Draco come through "hey sweetheart" I said as he closed the door "hey." He said bluntly, I looked at pansy and she raised her eyebrow at me

"I think me and little Oscar are going to use the bathroom" she said, trying to escape what she could tell was going to become a tense situation. I hated doing it but I tried to read his thoughts but like always was unsuccessful "would you stop trying to read my thoughts" Draco said, his tone rather harsh "then tell me what's wrong" I said, getting up off the seat. "Nothing" he muttered "that's a lie" I said "how would you know?"

"Because Draco I know you! I know you like the back of my hand so I pick up when something's not right!" I said "Would you just drop it! This doesn't concern you Hermione stop trying to fix everything that you can't fix!" He shouted. I was taken back by the way he shouted, his eyes filled with guilt but I Ignored it "fine then, if your going to a moody fucking twat I'll ask Blaise!" I said, my voice dangerously high "He won't Say anything either" Draco said "That's what you think!" I shouted, slamming the door.

How dare he think he can act like a childish brat! I opened the door to the Slytherin commen room to see Blaise sitting with Theo and some of the other boys in our year. I grabbed him by his ear and dragged him out as he shouted. I dragged him into one of the empty class rooms and started to shout "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!? Because Draco just came back and started having a go at me for no fucking reason all Because I asked what had happened!?" He looked at me, he looked nervous

"listen...we weren't going to tell you till after the ball becuase we know how excited you are but...they are planning on releasing father after Christmas" he sighed. A hundred thoughts went through my head and I began to wobble on my feet "w-what do you mean? How? He's...he's sentenced to life is he not?" I questioned, trying to find something to grip on to. "Apparently not, he's been on good behaviour and has given up hiding spots for several death eaters.." Blaise said. "Oh merlin..." I said, everything went dizzy and I felt as though I was falling but I never hit the ground

"I got you" Pansy said, her arm round my waist "They...Blaise that can't be! And even so why was draco Called and not me!?" I asked, holding onto pansy for steadiness as a guilty Draco made his way to Blaise "we asked for you not to be brought into it" Draco said "THAT IS NOT YOUR DECISION TO MAKE!" I yelled "hey calm down" Pansy said, holding my hand "NO I WILL NOT, HOW DARE YOU MAKE DECISIONS FOR ME! HE'S MY FATHER THIS AFFECTS ME MORE THAN IT AFFECTS YOU DRACO" I yelled once again.

I looked around the room before running out, pansys hand still joined with mine. Tears welling up in my eyes "Hermione!" The boys yelled, I ignored them and went straight to Headmistress office. I burst through to see her in a meeting "Miss zabini, Miss Parkinson are you okay? Miss zabini are you crying?" The headmistress asked, stepping out of her seat. I looked to see shacklebolt sitting in his chair and seconds later the boys bursting through

"What is the meaning of this!?" Mcgongal asked "HOW COULD YOU" I cried, running up to shaklebolt "YOU'RE LETTING HIM OUT!? HES A MONSTER HOW COULD YOU!? DOES MY MOTHER KNOW!? DO YOU KNOW WHAT HELL HE'LL BRING IF HE GETS OUT!?" I yelled "Hermione, this is not your descion to make" he said calmly "For sure hell it isn't, if it was he'd be dead by now!" I shouted, pansy trying to pull me away.

I looked at Mcgongal with pleading eyes "can't you do anything? Please headmistress?" I begged "I'm sorry miss zabini, mister zabini. This is not my descion to make" she said I turned to Blaise who had a tear running down his cheek, "I trusted you shaklebolt, you promised my mother he would never be released. I can't believe you're breaking it. I can't believe I trusted you!" I said. I turned away from him, and walked to Blaise, jumping at him for a hug.

His arms wrapped tightly round me as I cried "I'm sorry.." "no I am" he muttered "neither of you should be sorry" Pansy began, turning to the minister, she pointed at him "you should be" she spat. Before walking out with us and slamming the door.

I didn't sleep that night. Again it was 3am but this time I knew Draco was up. I could hear him pacing in his room. I chose not to sleep in his room tonight, I was still mad at him. I got up. And walked towards his door, my hand on his handle just as the door swung open. His glazed eyes meeting mine "I..I couldn't sleep.." I said "neither could I.." he said. I walked past him and into his bed as he wrapped his arms round me tightly, "I'm still mad at you" i said, "yea yea" he sighed, both of us falling asleep.
