Chapter 4 "Love doesn't exist. It's a fantasy."

Jessica's POV

I was paying attention to Phil as he discussed what our group was going to do for the Geography project about Volcanoes,"And then it explodes and kills everyone. Oh my god. I didn't mean to say that, I swear I'm not on drugs."

Dan and I laugh at Phil, making some people look at our loudness. I sunk back into myself and avoided eye contact with any of them. Phil just sat there eyeing all of them, laughing. Dan was laughing at Phil laughing. Strange boys.

I heard the door open and saw Gerard walk in with his hands in his pockets,"Sorry I'm late,"

"Take a seat, Mr. Way and join any group you want," My face paled as he sat down next to me and put his arm around my shoulder. Phil and Dan had grown silent, but Dan was pulling an amused face. Phil just looked down right awkward.

"I have to go to the loo," I mumble under my breath, I remove his arm and whack Phil on the head as I pass.

"Ow. I don't really know why people keep hitting me on the head," I laugh as I walk towards the teacher, I can hear Dan's laugh from the front of the classroom and I swear I saw Gerard give a small giggle.

Once I had asked the teacher if I could use the bathroom to which he replied a subtle yes quickly.

I opened up the bathroom door and was greeted by several girls rolling their skirts up and applying more make up. I give the curt smiles and walk towards an empty stall to sit and think.

"Hey, you," One of the girls say to me rudely. I turn around and give a polite smile,"Just because Gerard likes your ugly face doesn't mean that you can walk around like you own everything. Just watch your back."

I lower my head to my shoes as they storm out of the bathroom giving me dirty looks,"Okay."

I whispered it to myself, I don't even know why. I decided to just not go back to Geography because there was only 2 minutes left. I was already carrying my bag with me, Dan will probably give me any school work that I left there. I look in the mirror and tuck a piece of hair behind my ear and sigh.

I grab my bag and walk to the library, I had free period and I couldn't go home because I had to meet Gerard and Billie after school. I go to my locker and see Phil standing there. I wave to him and he waves back.

"You will not believe what I found on the Geography laptop when you were gone!" Phil says in a happy voice. I open my locker and give him a 'I'm going to regret this' look.

"I found out the a Skink is an animal! It's like the coolest animal ever! Apart from lion's. I love lions," I see Dan stand next to Phil and nod along. Laughing as Phil uses unnecessary hand actions.

"I really do not get you Phil Lester," I say while shoving the work in my locker. I laugh as he does some weird thing with his eyes.

"Don't worry, Jess. No one does," Dan says while whacking Phil to get him to stop.

I see Gerard look at me from his locker. He winks and I give a small blush, not too obvious but enough for him to laugh.

He walks over to the three of us and asks if Phil and Dan can give us a few moments alone, as soon as they leave I instantly feel the loss of their presence.

"I would like to apologise to you for how arrogant I was being and making you feel uncomfortable. So I was wondering if we could start over from scratch. As if you were the new girl," Gerard's face looked genuine so I nod with a smile.

"I would like that," I say without stuttering. He smiles down at me and sticks his hand out for me to shake.

"Hi, I'm Gerard," He greets politely.

"Jessica," I shake his hand and smile.

"Would you like to spend free period with me?" He asks while releasing my hand.

"Yes. I would love that," I shut my locker and adjust my bag so it's more comfortable on my shoulder.

We walk side by side to the library, closer than any friends should be. Our shoulders were brushing against eachother. Our hands brushed together and weirdly, I didn't flinch. He intwined our fingers and made me smile. It felt so right, but so wrong at the same time. I didn't remove my hand becuase we were starting again, right?

I ignored the eyes that were on me and Gerard as my feet stumbled in front of eachother.

I saw Patrick and waved at him, we weren't too fond of eachother but close enough to wave at eachother. I saw he was talking to Pete, Carly, Dan and Phil.

They wave us over, I didn't even need to look at Gerard because he was practically already dragging me there.

"Ooooooo.....is there a new couple?" Carly shrieks. I laugh and shake my head.

"No. Just friends or acquaintances. I don't even know," I stumble.

"Friends," Gerard confirms. The tension grew between the group. It was so obvious he didn't want to be just friends.

"Oh! Jess! I have that poster you wanted!" Patrick says and signals Dan to get it out of his bag.

They give me the poster, I unravel it and a smile grew on my face.

"OH MY GOD ITS SO PRETTY!" I admire the Pierce The Veil poster and almost die,"Thank you so much. Oh my god!"

They laugh at me but I ignore them and admire Jaime's face.

"You like Pierce The Veil?" Gerard asks. His eyes brightening up.

"What do you think?" I ask and laugh.

"Okay. If I'm going to be your friend. I need to know one thing. Do you like Black Veil Brides?" Gerard's face was expecting as he waited for my response.

"Oh my god. Cover your ears," Phil and Carly say at the same time.

"Ha. Ha. I'm not going to scream. But maybe I should show you my photo library on my phone. It is literally just Pierce The Veil, Black Veil Brides, Muse, Nirvana, Of Mice and Men and All Time Low," I retrieve my phone from my plain red and black lace bag.

I show him my photo album and he laughs,"You weren't joking."

"Why is there a picture of a really weird worm thing?" Gerard asks while laughing.

"Oh. That's my fault. It's called a skink. I discovered it in Geography. That was what I was getting excited about. I downloaded it on her phone," Phil says while smiling. Patrick laughs and we realise Pete and Carly had left.

"Where did they go?" Dan says, freaking out as if they were abducted.

"Probably hooking up in one of the spare classrooms," I say shrugging as if it was nothing.

"How can you say that without recoiling in horror?" Dan asks with a horrified face.

"What? It's not like I haven't done it a spare classroom," I shrug and look at my shoes. Gerard's face darkens.
He knows something...

"Are you telling me that you aren't a Virgin!?" Patrick asks rather loudly.

"Say it louder. Why don't you," I roll my eyes and look at all of them,"I'm not a virgin."

"Thought you were saving yourself for the 'one'. Wow. That sounded more dramatic then intended," Phil says earning a laugh from all of us.

"There is no such thing as the 'one'. Love does not exist. It's a fantasy," I say looking him dead in the eye. Sending chills up his back.

"So you will never get married?" Dan asks.

"I never said that. I just said love doesn't exist," I say feeling agitated.

"Jess is clearly getting irritated by this conversation. So do you want to get to the library before all the seats get taken?" Gerard asks noticing how I felt. I blush and nod my head. Waving goodbye to Patrick, Phil and Dan.

"Thanks. I really didn't want to be talking about that," I mumble to Gerard as our fingers find eachother once again.

"What are friends for?"
