In the beginning,
When the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy,
God created the heaven and the earth.

God saw every thing that he had made,
And it was very good.
And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden,

And there he put the man whom he had formed,
And the Tree of Life,
And the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.

And when the woman saw,
She took of the fruit thereof, and did eat,
And gave also unto her husband...

And God said unto the woman,
"What is this that thou hast done?"
And she said, "The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat."

And God said unto the serpent, "Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed...
"And I will put enmity between thy seed and her seed,
"It shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel."

So God drove out the man
And he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims,
And a flaming sword to keep the way of the Tree of Life.

And Eve conceived, and bare Cain.
And she again bare his brother Abel.
And it came to pass, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.

And the Lord said unto him,
"Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold."
And the Lord set a mark upon Cain.

And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord,
And dwelt in the land of Nod.
His wife conceived a son, and Cain built a city there.

He only aimed to procure every thing that was for his own bodily pleasure,
Though it obliged him to be injurious to his neighbours
And became a great leader of men into wicked courses.

And Eve bare a son
And called his name Seth -
"For God hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew..."

The posterity of Seth continued to esteem God as the Lord of the universe,
And to have an entire regard to virtue, for seven generations.
They also inhabited the same country without dissensions, and in an happy condition,

And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth,
Daughters were born unto them,
And the sons of God saw...
