She watched.

She watched.

That was what she was forced to do. It was what her life had come to. It was almost ironic. No, not ironic. Painful.

She was there for her. She was there every day. Every. Damn. Day. For years. She had done nothing but support and care and help.

Yet there she was. Watching. Pushed aside. Ignored. Abandoned. Was it funny? Maybe in some way, it was.

Alya's eyes traced out her friends' figures as they chattered happily. Marinette and Adrien. They had finally gotten together - after Alya's support and encouragement - and what she first thought was beautiful had turned vile.

She had figured that it was just a phase. Just something new couples did. That eventually they would stop ditching her. Eventually they would start inviting her again. Soon, they would talk to her again.

But it continued.

Almost a year later, and Alya was alone. Nino was all she had, and he had become incredibly busy. Their schedules were so different, they barely even saw each other at school. So Alya was nothing. Just another face in the crowd.

She shifted, her eyes following as Marinette and Adrien walked right past her, laughing. She forced herself to choke something - anything - out. "H-Hey, guys!"

Marinette threw a glance over her shoulder and gave her a thin smile. Then her attention was back on Adrien and how close she could press herself to his side. No hello. No wave. It was if she didn't exist.

Alya could feel herself breaking. Had she done something wrong? Had she said something? She had been nothing but supportive to either of them, yet it was as if she had offended them by existing. What- . . . why? Why?

She wanted to scream. She wanted to wail and screech and cry and scream until the noticed her- until they fucking cared! She wanted them to notice the torture that she had been going through. The torture they had put her through.

But they wouldn't.

And they didn't.

And Alya was too scared to confront them. She didn't have many friends anymore. If she lost them. . . that was it. That was her life. They were everything she had. And if she lost them, she would break. She would be lost. She wouldn't be able to undo the damage that life had given her.

"Marinette!"

The bluenette turned around - that was something. She blinked at Alya, as if just noticing she was there. Alya bit back the anger, the pain, the. . . everything. "Am I still coming over tonight? I got the movie and I bought the snacks already."

Marinette offered and apologetic smile. "Sorry, Alya, but I don't think it can happen tonight. Adrien needs helps with his homework and we don't get to spend much time together anymore."

Alya tried to swallow her tears. Bullshit. Bullshit, bullshit, bullshit. You see him all the time. You're always together. She turned and ran, knowing that if she spoke, the tears would come.

Part of her hoped they'd follow her, but she knew they wouldn't. They wouldn't care. They didn't notice. They were oblivious to her pain and they were happy that way.

She wasn't.

She wasn't happy.

She wasn't okay.

She wasn't fine.

She was breaking.

She was abandoned.

She was left behind.

She was forgotten.
