Marinette ran down the street, trying to get to school as fast as possible. Saving Paris had proved to take longer than expected, as usual, and she was running late. She already missed the last of her classes, but it wasn't too late to find Alya.
Marinette turned the corner in time to see Alya pulling open her car door. Marinette called to her best friend, almost tripping over her own legs. Alya gave her a look and slammed the door shut.
"Girl, where did you go? You were here at lunch, then you just disappeared!"
Marinette's gaze dropped to the ground in shame. She rubbed her neck, trying to sound apologetic. "I'm sorry, Alya. Family emergency! My dad got a huge order last minute, and he needed some extra help in the shop. But I'm here now!" Marinette offered a smile, but Alya shook her head.
"Sorry, girl. Adrien already left. Guess we'll have to reschedule that study date."
Marinette dropped her head in disappointment, and kicked a rock on the ground. This could have been her big shot with Adrien, and she missed it! Sometimes she hated being Ladybug.
Alya read her friend's disappointment, and patted her shoulder. "Hey, don't sweat it! We'll do it another day, I promise."
"Yeah, yeah.' Marinette began to sulk her way home when a familiar voice came from behind her.
"Hey Marinette! What's with the sad look? You up for some studying?"
Marinette whirrled around on her heels, her eyes wide. "A-Adrien! Wha- wh- hey, I mean.. hi, uhh.."
Alya smiled and jumped to her friend's rescue. "That sounds great Adrien. lead the way!"
Marinette squealed with excitment as Alya firmly took her shoulders. "Get it together, girl! You can do this! Just take a deep breath, and be the cool Marinette you sometimes are!"
Marinette nodded. "Right! I can do this!'
"That's the spirit!" The two girls followed Adrien into the school's library.
~~~
Marinette shyly took the seat next to Adrien as Alya sat across from her. It technically wasn't a date with her here, but Marinette knew she couldn't get through this on her own. Adrien pulled out his Historie textbook, and opened it to the chapter they had been been studying. Alya attempted to start a conversation.
"So Adrien, what do you do in your free time? You know, when you're not busy being a super cool model?
Adrien laughed a little at her joke. "I don't really do much. Usually I practice fencing or piano, or I'm just browsing on my computer." Adrien turned to an anxious Marinette. "What about you, Marinette? What do you do in your free time?"
Marinette tried to contain the blush forming on her cheeks, but she knew she wan't doing a very good job. "Who, me? Oh I..."
Alya jumped in. "You like to design clothes, right, Marinette?"
Marinete smiled and nodded. "Oh, yeah! I have a sketchbook that I love filling out with new designs. If they're good, I'll make them for real."
Adrien smiled. "That's really cool, Marinette! You'll have to show me your sketches sometime."
Marinette giggled and turned her gaze to the floor. Alya cut in before the moment grew awkward. "So, should we get to studying?"
Marinette pulled out homemade flashcards from her backpack, and the group began a nice review game. But, they were interupted only a few minutes later.
