the teacher dismissed the students in detention. a few had already left, only serving a half hour, but majority had to stay. seungmin left the school building and stood outside. he expected his mom to be waiting, as the rest of the kids had their parents waiting.

where are you

mom: what are you talking about?

you're supposed to pick me up today.
i had a detention, remember

mom: oh my goodness! i completely forgot. i'll be there as soon as i can, i just have to finish up a few things at work.

seungmin took a seat on the nearest bench. he took a deep breathe and leaned back, closing his eyes. seungmin felt chills, as if someone was staring at him. he glanced at the opposite side of him, and saw no one there. when he looked to the other side, he saw hwang hyunjin sitting on the bench as well, quickly turning his head, leaning it against his hand.

seungmin was quick to get up. he had already thought about what he said, determining he was very much out of place. he had also planned to apologize to hyunjin. but didn't realize that moment would come so soon. seungmin thought they'd never talk again, hyunjin only saw him in halls, and only talking to him to flirt. no one would every flirt with someone after calling their mom a slut.

hyunjin noticed seungmin get up as soon as he saw him. he was upset to see him leave so quickly, when he knew normally seungmin would just roll his eyes and stay. hyunjin knew he should be more upset about what seungmin said, even if it was true. but if hyunjin was pushed around, or being taunted, his mom would only call him a pussy and do the same.

hyunjin reached for seungmin's hand. seungmin froze, seungmin glanced at their hands, then at hyunjin.

"stay." seungmin didn't move.

"why?"

"please?" he carefully put his bag back down, and sat once again.

"i'm sorry." seungmin whispered.

"you were right." hyunjin whispered too. they didn't have to whisper, as there was no one around to hear. it just felt better to keep the conversation to themselves.

"that doesn't matter, i shouldn't have said it."

hyunjin gave an airy laugh, "i said it first, though."

"hyunjin, can you just accept my apology?"

"it's okay." their short talk left an uncomfortable silence lingering around them. at the same time, it felt okay. the two were content that they didn't despise one another. hyunjin had grown on seungmin a little, and seungmin seemed less like a toy to hyunjin. niether of them would admit though, because they wouldn't admit to themselves.

their rides showed up at the same time. seungmin and hyunjin walked away without saying anything, after today, nothing had to be said.

"i'm so sorry for making you wait, honey." seungmin's mom said.

"it's fine." he said.

"are you sure, because—"

"mom, i promise, it didn't bother me." his mom took a deep breathe, then began to drive home.

seungmin rested his head against the car window, looking at the blurry scenes pass by. his mind kept wondering to him and hyunjin. only then did seungmin realized, they never untangled their hands until they had to leave. seungmin let out a frustrated sigh, that fogged up the window. he pulled out his phone, that was buzzing in his pocket

jeonginine: are you out soon?

felix: yeah, i'm bored

jisung: so you want seungmin to entertain you

felix: or you two

jeonginie: i just wanna make sure he's feeling well

jisung: he was just in detention???

felix: ^ you're too gay for each other

jeonginie: minnie had it with hyunjin, so i just wanna make sure everything's okay
