"Why haven't you told him yet?" Ace asked. Ace paced back and forth in front of my bed.
"I'm going to tell him tonight," I muttered. I tapped the pencil on my Biology book.
"It's been a couple of weeks since you told me, bebita. What have you been waiting for?" Ace stopped and looked at me.
I shrugged. "If you are so worried about it, let's go tell him." I closed the Biology book and jumped off the bed.
Ace followed me out of my bedroom.
Andersen stood in front of a vase that he was dusting off.
"Andersen?" I asked. "Where is Dad?"
"Last I knew, he was in the study." Andersen gestured toward the hall with his duster.
"Thank you," I said. I grabbed Ace's hand and pulled him down the hallway.
We entered the study without knocking.
"Damn. I need to start knocking, huh?" I grimaced.
Mom sat on the edge of Dad's desk. Dad stood between her legs, and they were having a full-blown make-out session. Dad broke the kiss and looked past Mom at me. Mom turned to look back at me.
Dad chuckled at the disgusted look on my face.
Ace bit down on his bottom lip to contain his laughter.
Mom blushed. She got off the desk and fixed her dress. "I better go see if I can get ahold of Ariel," Mom said. "She went out with some friends. I need to see if she is coming home for dinner."
"Actually, could you stay here for a second?" I arched a brow.
Ace and I walked over to the couch and sat down. Ace kept my hand in his.
"Is something wrong?" Dad asked. Dad sat down in his chair, and Mom stood beside him and rested a hand on his shoulder.
"No." Ace shook his head.
"I just wanted to let you know that I want to take the chair," I said.
"I see," Dad said. "Well, I hope you thought it through. It's a big job." Dad intertwined his hands and placed them in front of him on the desk.
"I know that, but I will have you and Ace to guide me through it. Before I knew about all of this, I was going to go to school. However, I wasn't sure what I would go to school for. I was never good at fitting in anywhere, but I fit in here. It feels like I belong here, and I can't imagine doing something else." I shrugged.
Mom smiled. "Well, I'm glad you came to a decision. I'm sure you will do just fine, honey."
"You will do great. As you said, Ace and I will be around to help you through all of it. I suppose that means we need to inform the other boys and the council," Dad said. "I'm glad you brought this to my attention tonight because all the boys are coming over for dinner and poker."
"Okay," I said. I got to my feet. Ace didn't move, and I looked down at him, confused.
"I'll be out in a minute," Ace said.
Mom and I left the study. We went into the kitchen together.
"I have to tell you, Aria. I never imagined this life for you, but I understand it. It makes sense for you. As I told you before, you always were much like your father. You're determined, and you try hard at everything you do. From what I have seen and what your father has told me, I really think you are cut out for this. You have grown more into yourself," Mom said. "I'm proud of you, no matter what your decision is."
