"Well, Mom, I'll give you one thing," I paused. "You sure can decorate for Halloween."
Mom beamed at me. "I love Halloween."
"That's because your mother is a little freak," Dad said and chuckled. "I've never done this before."
The mansion was covered in fake cobwebs and spiders. The front yard looked like a cemetery. There were skeletons and other monsters that were in different spots of the house. Mom went all out on Halloween decorations.
Mom stood on a statue while she hung up a decoration.
"Mom, you're going to fall," I said worriedly.
"I'm fine," Mom argued.
"Dad, tell her to get down," I said.
Dad walked over. "Maybe, you should let me–" Dad stopped, and his eyes widened.
Mom gasped and lost her balance. She started to fall off the high statue.
Dad managed to catch her before she could hit the floor. Dad let out a breath of relief and held Mom bridal style.
Mom bursted into giggles.
"That's not funny," Dad muttered and shook his head. Dad sat Mom on her feet.
I snickered.
"I'm sorry. I just want Ariel and AJ to have a good Halloween before they're too old to enjoy it," Mom said and shrugged.
"Jim never let us go out on Halloween," I told Dad.
Dad gritted his teeth and shook his head. "That's bullshit. So, you never went out and got candy?"
"Never got candy on Halloween," I said and shrugged.
"Never got candy unless I snuck you some," Mom muttered. "But that isn't the case this year. There is a bunch of candy in the kitchen."
"Don't mind if I do." I smirked and started for the kitchen. Mom had bought enough candy to last for months. I grabbed a snickers from one of the large bowls and opened it.
"Getting into the candy? Isn't that for trick or treaters?" Ace chuckled.
I turned to face him and smiled. "Mom is letting us have some too. Growing up, we never got candy on Halloween."
"You never went trick or treating?" Ace asked in disbelief. He closed the distance between us.
"Nope," I said.
"Well, that's bullshit." Ace grabbed a piece of candy from the dish and popped it into his mouth.
"So, a big Halloween party tonight?" Ace asked. "Whose idea was that?"
"It was Mom's idea. Ariel has a date for the party. It's her first date," I murmured.
"You don't sound too enthused," Ace said and chuckled.
"It's just so strange. I just started dating, and now she is already going to start dating," I said.
"You weren't allowed to date when you were Ariel's age," Ace said.
"Yeah, I know. I just hope she is careful, you know? Not all people are worth your time, and I hope she knows that."
"She will be fine, bebita. She's smart like you. I don't think Ariel would fall for someone that would hurt her." Ace pursed his lips. "We were supposed to practice for a couple of hours today, but we're standing around eating candy."
