I have my ways of becoming invisible. I sit in the back of the room, take out a book, and I read.

I don't look at anyone, I never make eye contact, and I don't do anything that will draw attention to myself. I shut out the world and forget about all the madness.

It's better this way. I can read for hours, sometimes even days, and no one will bother me about it.

I can escape my life, forget about my family situation, as well as my body. It haunts me wherever I go.

Reading is my escape; I can live a whole other life, and be who I want to be, just by reading words on a page, and I'm so thankful for that.

Even when I'm not reading, I find certain ways to become invisible. I use body language, or stay silent.

I don't talk to anyone, besides a selective few.

Those few are my closest friends.

And the weirdest thing is, one of those close friends, is the most popular guy in school.

-

Johnathan lives with his mom by the beach, and his story is an interesting one, but also a long one as well.

At school he acts like he's the king of the world, but without all the cockiness and overthrowing power; I swear all the girls are crazy for him.

All I ever hear in class is how beautiful he looks when his golden hair sparkles in the sun, or the way his sea green eyes light up when you make him laugh. Oh, and let's not forget my personal favorite: how that perfect smile of his just makes you melt on sight. (God, where do they get this stuff?)

It drives me up a wall, but I've learned to deal with it.
He is my friend, after all.

Well, actually, he's been my best friend for as long as I can remember.

I mean, I've known him all my life.

We did everything together; whether it was playing in the park or going to school, he was always by my side. He still is to this day.

Our favourite place to hang out is this huge tree on top of a hill. Johnathan decided to named it "Annabel's Hill" since I'm here most of the time; probably reading, or writing.

My favorite part of Annabel's Hill is the tree. It's truly breathtaking with its white and pink flowers, and it smells absolutely amazing. During the fall, the petals start to drop, showering me in the process.

Whenever I'm here, I feel protected. Like I can do anything in the world.

As I sit on the branches of the tree, waiting for my usual ride with Johnathan, I stare at the dew dripping from the leaves. Sometimes I wish I could be a dewdrop. I'd have a short and care-free life, and as of right now, that's all I'd ever need.

The familiar sound of car tires burning rubber as it screeches to a stop rips through the air.

Johnathan, no doubt.

He shouts from the drivers seat, a huge goofy grin playing off his face. "Are you done daydreaming?"

I jump down from the branches.

"Coming!" I yell as I grab my backpack and books. I make sure to take as long as I possibly can, just to annoy him.

About 10 minutes later, I finally reach the car and leap into the passengers seat.

"About time," He smiles, "I thought I was going to have to be late to school again because of you!"

"Oh quit your whining and just drive." I laugh.

He steps on the gas, and we basically start driving to our death.

Or well, my death.

Invisibility mode: ON.
