Chapter 4 – “Joseph’s Party”
I walked out into the lounge room, wearing the death dress. “Oh my… you look… beautiful!” Mum said, almost shedding a tear of joy. I rolled my eyes. “Alright go get your make-up and your curler. I’m going to curl your hair and I guess do your make-up or you can do your own make-up.” Mum explained. I sighed trying to resist doing what I’m told, but of course my mind goes ahead and controls me at this specific time. I walked up the stairs and into my room. “I don’t want to do this…” I mumbled to myself. I grabbed my make-up case and my curler and walked downstairs. “Alright, lets begin!” Mum smiled.
About an hour later, I was ready for the “party”. My hair was curled perfectly, and my make-up seemed amazing. I had mascara on, a dark purple eye shadow, black eyeliner with cat lines off the corners of my eyes and a dark purple lipstick. I sighed and looked into the mirror in the bathroom. To be honest, I actually looked pretty good. “Now go put your shoes on. You said you had to leave at six.” Mum called out to me. I walked into the hallway at the front door and slipped on my ballet slippers. My sneakers were there too, but mum would have a go at me for not looking nice with them. “Alright, the next bus to Meadow Street is in about eight minutes. You should get going.” Mum said to me while looking at the clock. I kissed mum on the cheek and walked out the front door. “Here I go. On my rescue mission.” “Oh wait! You forgot your flashlight! Here.” Mum said while running outside. She handed me my flashlight and walked inside. “Just great.” I sighed. I put the flashlight in a shoulder bag I had with me and began to walk up the street.
It was an eerie night, and fog was pretty much everywhere. You could barely see the footpath. The sky was completely black, and there were clouds scattered everywhere. “Aaaaaoooooooooowwww!”
I heard a wolf howling. I then saw this house. A creepy house. At the end of the street. It looked abandoned and ruined. Vines were growing everywhere, the windows were boarded up, and the front door was hanging off its hinges. Then I heard thunder, and it began to rain. I didn’t want to approach the house. I opened my shoulder bag and took out the flashlight. I switched it on, but of course it didn’t flash any light. “Of course its dead. Why wouldn’t it be?” I growled. I put my flashlight back in my shoulder bag and forgot to zip it up. I slowly crept up to the house. My heart was racing, my lips were trembling, my knees were knocking, and I went as pale as a ghost. I took one step up the first stair, then the next, and then the next, up onto the porch. “I really don’t want to do this.” I shivered. I backed away a little bit, being cautious and making sure I don’t fall down the stairs.
“…Come… in…” said a voice quietly. I shivered and got goose bumps at the sound of that voice. It sounded like a girl, but I couldn’t quite tell. I got a bit closer to the door.
The door creaked as I opened it slowly. “H… Hello?” I murmured with my voice trembling. Suddenly I hear a loud bang and I LEAP backwards in fright. “AAH!” I squealed and ran out of the house. As my luck seemed to end, I tripped over a loose board on the porch and my ballet slipper was jammed in a crack in the floorboards! Wait – what is that noise? I look behind me and see something coming towards me. “GET LOOSE YOU STUPID SHOE!!” I continued to squeal. Suddenly it comes clear in my vision: my flashlight. I giggled nervously because I got scared of a stupid flashlight that fell out of my pocket. Amazingly, my ballet slipper came out of the hole. I tried turning on the flashlight and to my utter amazement – it turned on.
I crept back into the house. It was actually pretty grand, but creepy. A crystal chandelier hung from the ceiling and a grand staircase was directly in the middle. It was freezing cold, and I got the shivers. Cobwebs were everywhere, and it reminded me of this horror movie I watched a month ago. Eight Legged Freaks or something like that. Well my luck REALLY seemed to run out because my flashlight went out. “Oh come on, seriously?!” I moaned. The room was yet again completely dark. Something ran past behind me, WHOOSH! I turned around in fright as I dropped my flashlight onto the floor.
“What the…who’s there?”
That thing yet again ran past behind me! “Show your face!” I shrieked. I heard the stairs creak a little bit. Suddenly I saw something white in the corner of the room… glowing, I think. I slowly walked over there. “H… H… Hello…?” I faintly whispered, almost touching its shoulder. Then that thing turned around and…
I collapsed to the floor as the thing leapt onto me and opened its mouth. “Say goodbye, Aria!” the glowing figure said, sounding like a demented child. Suddenly it began sucking up something as my mouth somehow opened up. I began to feel extremely dizzy and my vision went hazy. It was sucking up all my oxygen and my life. I suddenly saw a white light. It was getting closer and closer. My hearing was fading away because the sound of the figure sucking up my oxygen and my life was getting quieter. “LEAVE HER ALONE!” I heard a familiar voice scream out. Someone leapt onto the glowing figure and pushed it off of me! I tried regaining my breath, but it wouldn’t work. Whoever tried saving me was too late.
“Aria!!”
“Its me! Sophia!”
I then entered the white light, and fainted.
“ARIA! CAN YOU HEAR ME?”
“ARIA!”
“AAAARRRRIIIIAAAA……”
Sophia then began to cry. She burst into tears, and hugged Aria tight.
