Chapter 3 – Its No Longer A Dream
I walked into the mall with Aunt Josie and looked around at some of the shops there. “Forever 21… Wal-mart… Passion For Fashion…” I mumbled. Then spotted a really cute dress in Passion For Fashion. “Josie, can we go look in there?” I asked while pointing at the shop. “Sure, ok.” She nodded. We walked into the shop and Justice Crew’s song Que Sera was playing over the speakers. In my head, I was just singing the words. That was pretty much the only song that made me feel better about myself for some odd reason. Auntie Josie wandered off to the far left of the shop where these denim skinny jeans were, and so I just left her to do her own thing, while I checked out that dress. “Whoa…” I glanced at the dress. It was a long, purple dress with diamonds around the collar of it and had lilac swirls covering the dress. It was dead-drop gorgeous in my opinion. I walked over to Auntie Josie where she was now glancing at some tank tops. “Aunt Josie, can I try on that purple dress over there?” I asked while pointing at the dress on the other side of the shop. “Sure sweetie, you can do whatever you want as long as I’m supervising you. I promised your mother I would keep an eye on you.” Auntie Josie nodded. I was just thinking how happy mum is right now with me not there.
I grabbed a coat hanger, which had the dress in a size 14, and I walked into the dressing room. Seems like no one likes getting changed in here, all the stalls were as empty as a ghost. Not even a spec of mess. I strolled into the first one I saw and locked the door. I began taking off my clothes, starting from the top to the pants. I then looked in the mirror, staring at my stomach. “I feel like mum is right. I need to go on a diet.” I murmured to myself. It was kind of true though; I had rolls and red lines all across my stomach. “Ugh, sucks to be me.”
I slipped the dress over my head, carefully trying not to rip some threads. I moved the dress around a little to make it fit me better, and then I took a glance in the mirror. To my amazement, it didn’t even look like me. It looked like a famous celebrity, gussying up for the cameras of the paparazzi. “Is that… me?” I said to myself. I stared at the mirror for a while, and then snapped out of it when I heard Aunt Josie yell out something. “Are you…? Its…” I didn’t catch most of what she said. “Uh, yeah hold on!” I yelled back to her. I began to change back into my clothes when I heard an announcement over the speakers in the shop. “Attention all shoppers! Passion For Fashion will be closing in five minutes, so please begin to exit the shop. Thank you!”
I was sitting at a table near Mc Donald’s eating a cheeseburger while Aunt Josie had some lasagna from this Chinese restaurant. “Thanks for buying me that dress, Auntie Josie.” I said politely after swallowing the last bit of my burger. “Your welcome sweetie, anything for my lovely niece.” She replied with a smile. Then I saw it, behind Aunt Josie was sitting, a shop that had the dress I was wearing in the dream. “What’s wrong honey?” she asked when she noticed I was frowning at something. She turned around and saw the dress. “Oooh! Now that is what I call pretty! Hurry and finish up, I want to see it close up.” Josie said while grabbing all the rubbish on the table. It was a deep velvet color with black bats on the sleeves, and it had a black frill on the bottom of the dress and the bottom of the sleeves. It was almost the Halloween disco for my school, so this made me wonder if that was why I had that dream. Searching for a way to distract her from the dress, I did something really stupid. I poured a little bit of my drink on my pants, which made a patch that looked like I peed myself. But at least this was better than getting a dress which would lead me to the rest of my dream. “Uh, Aunt Josie, can we please go to the bathroom… I might have… you know.” I whispered to her. “Oh my… alright lets go quickly, then we will get the dress.” She said, glaring at my patch. I groaned miserably. So within a second from just looking at the dress and saying we were just going to take a glance at it to getting it all of a sudden? I needed a new plan.
