Never Sometimes Always – Chapter Eight
Violet's been sitting on the edge of her bed, tapping her fingers against her suitcase for the past two hours. Granted she's been packed for the past two days, today is the day she leaves for Los Angeles for Harry's album release party. She's packed for hot weather (which she isn't sure is true, but from what she's read and her weather app, it's going to be in the upper thirties for the one night she's going to be there) and she's got her dress clothes stuffed into her case. Her leg was bouncing erratically out of pure excitement. She thought she would be more nervous about this entire thing, meeting so many credible people, people she's admired for years, but she's rather excited. This is her first time travelling to America and she gets to go to one of the staple cities.
"Have you got your toothbrush?"
"Yes."
"Your lemsip? You know you get sick when travelling."
"I've never travelled aeroplane before, though."
"Which is a better reason to take your lemsip."
"Okay, mum."
Violet's actual mum chuckles from the vanity chair as the roommates bicker. Violet's mum had come over to drive her to the airport whenever Harry called. Her mum also helped her pack, but Amber would interrupt every minute or so to tell Violet whatever clothing item she's holding looks awful and she should trash it.
But in all, she's got shorts, a couple of shorter sleeved shirts and some vests. Her converse were a bit worse for wear, but she packs them anyway along with an extra pair of vans. For the actual party, she had packed a dress she bought from ASOS with the assistance of her mum. It was a dark blue, but not quite navy, dress that stopped at the knee. It had a flowy skirt at the bottom and the bust half was cami-styled and covered in multi-coloured flowers. The neckline of the dress even had a frill around it that Violet was obsessed with. It was fairly expensive, but she didn't mind spending the extra money for such an important event. She was going to wear her hear in a bun with some curls framing her face (it's what Amber recommended), and some nude heels Jenna had left in their shared flat.
"I'm just looking out for you, Vi." Amber shrugs and shoves a cookie in her mouth. She froze for a second and that reminds Violet that they need to pay their internet bill. This poor wireless connection isn't going to cut it when she has to take Medical Terminology II. "You've got quite a fit man courtin' you."
Violet's mum makes a face at Amber through the phone screen. "Oh, has she?"
Okay, so maybe Violet didn't tell her mum exactly why she was going to LA. She said something along the lines of "I should take a holiday with some friends" without actually disclosing which friends and why.
Violet is currently throwing daggers at Amber and if their Facetime connection was a little better then Amber would likely be dead.
"We're not like...a thing." Violet says, getting up to double check her toiletries.
"But..." Violet's mum is proper invested. To be fair Violet's never had an actual boyfriend, so this is very new and very much accepted.
"No buts. He invited me to his album launch party tomorrow night in Los Angeles and then he asked me to come back to London with him for the weekend and go to his 'secret show,'" Violet explains.
Her mum does a silent 'wow' and smiles. "He is courting you."
Violet rolls her eyes and continues to stuff extra toiletries in her suitcase. "No, he's just inviting a good friend along with him to his shows. He's invited several other people."
