5th Year
Remus noticed Sirius was being a little distant lately. He rarely greeted him in the hallways when they passed each other, and he didn't wait for Remus to leave together after Charms when he had promised to do so. He also lost the bright smile he usually wore on his face. His laughter was gone, making the common room seem silent. Whenever the Marauders spent time together, it was awkward and unnatural, since Sirius was the one who made the jokes to fill the room with giggles and laughter. But Sirius just sits silently staring at the ground, as if it was intriguing to him.
James, Remus, and Peter met up secretly to discuss Sirius' current situation.

"What is going on? This has never happened before," said James.
Remus scratched his head in confusion.
"Honestly, I have no idea, Prongs."
Peter sighed in response. Suddenly, James' face lit up.
"Oi, Remus. Remember that time when he broke his arm during quidditch and he refused to play quidditch ever again? You were the only one who could talk some sense into him. Maybe it's the same this time too."
Remus thought for a while.
"I don't know... Are you sure about this?"
Peter nodded excitedly.
"He's right, Moony! You should do it. You're best at handling these situations, especially situations involving Padfoot!"
"Fine, fine, I'll do it."

Midnight
Remus and Sirius were sitting next to each other in the Gryffindor common room. James and Peter had just "gone off to sleep". Remus was reading a book silently on his lap, and Sirius was holding a bottle of beer, taking a sip every few minutes.
Remus' eyes flickered over to sirius, noticing that he had lost his warmth, and was now slumped on the couch frowning. Sirius' gaze moved away from the floor to Remus. Their eyes met. They blinked at each other for a few seconds, and Sirius went back to staring at the floor. He took a sip of his beer.
Remus was still staring at him. He knew something was definitely wrong. "Sirius?"
"Mm?"
"Is... is something wrong?" He asked with genuine worry.
"Remus," he sighed, finally looking up. He turned to Remus with a desperate look on his face.
"What's wrong, Sirius?"
"I-I think... I think I'm in love with you." Remus' mouth fell open. His eyes widened. He couldn't speak.
Sirius lowered his head, feeling embarrassed and ashamed.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said anything. I just...I don't know what to do," Sirius said quietly. "I'm really sorry, Remus. I tried to ignore my feelings, but.. I can't! I—"
A hand cupped over his mouth, silencing him. Tears welled up in Remus' eyes. He finally had the courage to speak. "Sirius... it's fine. Actually... I-I love you too."
He lifted his hand away slowly from Sirius' mouth, afraid of what he might say. Sirius didn't know what to feel. He had hoped for Remus to say those three words for a long time. Tears rolled down his flushed, bright red cheeks, while he forced a smile. Remus leaned in and planted a gentle kiss on his forehead, and hugged him. Sirius felt so safe and warm in Remus' arms. He wanted to stay there for eternity, protected and happy.
Remus finally let go reluctantly after a few minutes and stood up. "Well, I'm going to sleep now. You should too. It's 1 in the morning, Pads."
Sirius smiled.
"Sure, Moony. Whatever you say."
