The ball hit the water with such a colossal force that it ducked under the surface before springing back up as it remembered its buoyancy. I shielded my face from the splash as Loki power rowed the canoe over to the bobbing ball.
I snatched it up, protectively shielding it from the claws of Bellatrix who had also made an attempt to get to it first.
Our canoe hit theirs and scraped along the side as we tried to correct ourselves. Before we could swing completely off course, I made a valiant attempt to throw the ball to Molly and Greg who had moved nearer the Chance Thorp goal.
The ball bounced on the water and landed in their canoe safely.
"I hope everyone saw that because I won't be able to do it again," I marvelled as Loki steered us around and back towards the goal.
Molly passed the ball to Greg who threw the ball at a ridiculous speed.
Although it didn't make it into the goal, it felt good that it smacked Sylar on the side of the head before he caught it.
"Sorry!" Greg yelled over, not sounding apologetic at all.
Sylar sneered over the ball before throwing it into Bellatrix and Clarisse's canoe. Clarisse hurled it expertly in the direction of Jim. He would have caught it had Sherlock not intercepted the ball in mid flight.
Jim was quick off the mark though, taking advantage of Sherlock who was momentarily stunned. He obviously hadn't expected himself to smack the ball from the air with such precision.
Luke walled the ball between the two canoes to enable Jim to grab the ball. Clara jammed her oar into the water, creating ripples that carried the ball away from his nimble fingertips.
"Hey!" He growled, leaning further out of his canoe in an attempt to grab it.
"Loki!" I yelped as our canoe smashed into theirs, tipping Jim over the edge.
Luke managed to grab him before he hit the water but his t-shirt was soaked and water clung to his hair.
"I really meant for that to happen," Loki giggled smugly as Chance Thorp protested foul play.
Mr Malfoy shot a disapproving stare at Stiker who blew a whistle in response.
We paused the game, looking up.
"I do believe that-," Striker began but Logan interrupted.
"I believe that Loki lost control of the canoe and it was an accident. If anything, that boy-," He pointed accusingly at Jim, "Shouldn't have been hanging out of his canoe!"
"I completely lost control!" Loki whined, pouting, "I have no idea what I was thinking." He shrugged grandly, his Oscar worthy performance making us all chuckle.
"Yes you did." Clara whispered to him as they passed, following the football as Chance Thorp were granted a free throw as a compromise instead of myself and Loki being disqualified for 'foul play'.
After a while passed and no goals were scored. I was beginning to wonder if maybe we were just too good for each other.
Every time Chance Thorp got the ball within distance of our goal, Greg or Sherlock intercepted it. Chance Thorp mirrored this; Bellatrix and Clarisse seeming to be everywhere at once.
Striker blew the whistle agian to pause the game after Jim had splashed water all over Clara in an attempt to distract her from the ball.
She didn't look happy.
"Right, let's make this interesting," Striker called before pointing at Jim's canoe, "You can only score for Chance Thorp and you-," He pointed at myself and Loki, "Can only score for Thirkwood."
