I deserve better.
As I walked down those old rocky roads, lightning cracked, thunder boomed, and the familiar rain drenched my clothes. It seemed as though God was mocking me. So I stopped, looked up and let the rain drops soothe my stinging face and said, "God where are you? I know that you don't put any obstacles in front of me that I couldn't overcome, but maybe I'm not as strong as you think. What should I do?..." And then I waited for an answer, some sign that he would guide me. But the lightning continued to flash in the twilight sky, and I knew that I had to make it out here myself. So I sucked it up and I walked the rest of the way to Hakiem's apartment and rang the buzzer.
"Please let me in." I said from outside the door.
After a moment he replied, "Danyelle umm what are doing here?"
"I left. I ran away. Just like you did. Please let me in Kiem."
"Okaaay." He said kind of hesitantly and buzzed me in.
I ran to his apartment, burst through the door and said, "Hi Hakiem!" hugging him tightly.
"Danyelle what are you doing here?"
"I ran away Kiem!" I said with my arms still wrapped around his neck.
"You gotta go home and take care of yo moms Danni."
"I'm never going back." I said with tears welling up in my eyes. "She never cared for me, So fuck her, I got my own to take of now. We can be a family now Kiem! I'll get a job just like you and...and and.... we'll get married and give this baby a better life than we ever had. Right baby? Right!?" I screamed, shaking hysterically.
"Danyelle!" Hakiem yelled. He looked into my eyes with tears welling up in his eyes and said, "Calm down baby girl, I'm a man. I take care of mine." then he grabbed my chin and kissed me. And at that moment, I finally felt at home.
Hakiem parted his lips from mine, and moved to the doorway of the hall that leads to his bedroom and said "I just ordered some pizza. It's on the counter if you and the baby want some."
I smiled and replied, "We're fine babe, just tired."
"Oh okay umm... my room looks like a tornado hit it, let me clean real quick." He chuckled. "In the meantime, you wanna sleep on the couch? There's a blanket." he told me pointing at a neatly folded blanket next to his old black couch.
"Sure, thanks. I Love you."
"I love you too."
Then I snuggled in on the couch and drifted off to sleep.
Hakiem's P.O.V
After I watched Danni fall asleep I ran straight to my room to see if she was still there. Of course, there she was, laying on my bed naked.
"Angie, you have to get out. Now. My girl is in the front."
"Really?" Angie said smiling. "I wanna meet your girl."
"No, get out!" I screamed, pointing towards my window. "I'll pick you up for a movie tomorrow. But you have to keep us a secret."
"What I can't get a ride? After all that riding I just did?" Angie laughed as she put my shirt on.
"No Angie. Now shh... and get out." and that's what she did.
