Sometimes I think I'm strange. Every griffin I have meet looks so diffrent from me. I have always wondered why I look diffrent. Every time I try to to sound like the others, I always sound like I'm hooing or cooing. I have never seen the outside before, I am never allowed to fly around my room, I barely see the person who made me. All I have been doing for months is waiting. I am one year old now, I have started to refuse my food and even my monthly talk to the other griffins.
I layed on the floor, like how I normally do, and my door opened. I walked up to it as Gordon, my owner, walked into my room. He put something on my wings and opened a door in my wall. It led to outside. I cooed and pureed. I jumped up but I couldn't open my wings.
I looked at my wings confused. Why can't I fly? Gordon walked up to me and pressed a button in his hand and my wings opened. I chirped in confusion as he clicked the button again to close my wings. He walked up to me and said, "You fly when I say. We can fly soon." He rubbed my head and walked away. I flattened my ears, I want to fly so badly but I can't.
One day I was woken up by Gordon. He put some strange thing on me. It was heavy and tight, and it rubbed on my feathers. I didn't like this thing. I tried to shake it off but it only rubbed more on my feathers. I squawked and tried to bite at it but Gordon tapped me on the nose and yelled, "No! You are keeping your saddle on!" He tightened it, I felt like I could barely move. It pulled on my neck backwards, and it attached to a muzzle on my back that yanked it backwards. He pushed the button and my wings where free to move.
When I lifted my wings up the saddle made it uncomfortable and felt like a boundary. I hate this saddle thing. He then jumped on me and made it harder for me to stand. "The saddle is perfect" He said as he grabbed onto a rope attached to my muzzle.
He guided me outside and then showed me a metal box with wheels. He pushed me toward it, "Go in" As I walked into the strange box, the door shut behind me. I squawked for it to open back up. I clawed at the door but Gordon banged on the side and yelled, "No!"
The box started to move, so I layed down so I wouldn't ram into the walls. The box stopped and the door opened with Gordon staring at me, "Get up! We have to get you ready." He yanked on my rope, I got up so it wouldn't yank my beak off. The place smelled strange. I could smell lots of griffins.
He showed me a place with cages with large griffins inside, many of them had scars. I pinned my ears and walked close to Gordon. He showed me an empty cage and opened the door, "Go inside. The race will start soon."
What's a race? Why am I in a cage? So many questions filled my head. I heard something that really worried me, it sounded like two griffins fighting. Lots of humans were yelling and shouting. I worried more when some of the other griffins going outside.
The day was almost over, Gordon unlocked my cage and guided me to an area. He unclipped the rope from my muzzle and jumped on my back again. He kicked into my side and said, "Fly!" He kicked again which only hurt more. I squawked and jumped around, trying to get him off. He jumped off and yelled at me, "No! Bad!"
He got back on and clipped himself on me. "When I say fly, then fly." He pressed the button to release my wings. He kicked me again, "Fly!" I didn't want him to kick me again so I ran forward and jumped up. I beated my wings as much as I could, but I fell. I crashed into the ground, a cloud of dust formed around me.
He got off me again and then he yelled at me, "You can fly so fly!" Gordon jumped back on me and pressed a button that made my wings flap, it felt like it was trying to reshape my bones to dust. It lifted me up but it felt awful. Once he turned it off, I pinned my wings to my body and let myself fall.
Gordon got off me again and yelled at me, "I showed you how to fly so fly! You dumb beast." I keep my wings shut tight. He didn't get on me this time and told me to fly, and he let my wings go free. I didn't like flying with this saddle thing on.
I got ready to try again but I stopped myself and pinned my wings back to my sides. Gordon yelled at me again, "GO FLY YOU DUMB CREATURE!" I hated his shouting, I twisted around and broke free of the saddle and flew away. I headed for the forest, I could hear Gordon shouting at me to come back. I kept flying before he could press the button to make me stop flying. My wings shot to my sides as I fell down into the thick forest. The leaves soften my fall but I ran deeper and deeper to escape.
I wasn't going to let him catch me. I kept running until the moon was high. I slowed down as I breathed heavily. I knew he would find me if I kept going in a straight line so I turned to head to the mountains. I kept walking until my paws ached. The sun was rising, I heard a town up ahead and went toward it.
There where many horses in this town, walking up and down on a dirt path. I hid between two buildings to stay out of sight from the humans. I heard a griffin close by as I saw it walk past my hiding spot. It stopped and looked at me. It turned its head to the right and chirped as a small jackalope jumped in front of it.
I heard a voice, of a young sounding human. The human stopped and asked the griffin and jackalope what was going on. She looked at me, she had blue eyes like a gentle river flowing, and her hair was golden like sun flowers flowing in the wind.
"What are you doing alone?" Her voice was quiet and soft. I looked at her head, and there were ears? How can a human have animal ears? She had a short tail in the back, and had a small fang on her right side of her smile.
She crouched down low and slowly came up to me. "Your a beautiful gryphon. Come with us, we can take care of you." The griffin let out another chirp, "She is safe. She took care of us." The griffin said as the girl got on his back with the jackalope.
I pinned my ears and slowly approached them. "What is that? Why would they put that on the wings of a creature? I'll get that off you." I backed up. She grabbed the wing controler and I hear a click. It fell off, I looked at her, "She, helped me". I said softly confused. She smiled and chuckled, "Of course! I couldn't let a beauty like you rot in a race track."
My ears shot up, "How can she hear me?" I tilted my head confused. She chuckled, "I have animal ears, it's not that hard to figure out what you are saying." She stood up and walked back to sit on the griffin's back. "Follow us. I will make sure you are safe." The griffin shot up into the air with the girl and the jackalope.
I jumped up as well, I followed them closely. They headed toward the mountains, I watched them fly above the mountains, the flew down past the mountains. I saw them in a valley with a river and forest out beyond the river, standing next to a small house. I landed after them, the house was made of wood and stone. I was confused on how they all fit in the house. The girl looked at me and smiled, "This is my house, you can live with Clay and Night."
I looked over to where she was pointing, there was a small concrete hut with a brick roof and open windows with no glass, just a curtain. I looked around and saw a field of grass and flower patches, and a pebble shore near the river. It was a dream, or heaven, I chirped in delight from this breathtaking sight.
My ears shot up with excitement, I glanced at the girl and paused. "Can I go explore?" She looked at me and smiled, "You can, but first tell me what your name is? I'm Hyacinth." The young griffin said, "I'm clay!" and the jackalope said, "And that makes me Night."
Hyacinth said, "I pretty sure Clay is the same age as you, so you too can go fly around and explore. But come back here at night so you can get dinner!" Clay jumped up and down, "Come on! Oh wait, what is your name?"
I froze up a bit. I paused and put my ears back slightly, "I don't have a name." Clay let out a coo and tilted his head. Night jumped up over to me, "Your name could be Moon. Since you are a white gryphon and your an owl." I cheered up instantly, "I like that name!" I jumped up and chirped. "Okay then, go off and play, but come back at night!" The girl said as Clay and I took off into the bright blue sky.
I loved the wind that made my feathers flow, I closed my eyes and smiled. Clay chirped, "Where do you want to go? There is the lake, forest, mountains, valley, the snowy place, and the beach." My eyes widened, "That many places? Are there any limits?" Clay chuckled, "Nope! We can even fly over the sea if you want."
My world started with a empty room, limits, and rules. My world has changed greatly. The world is my room, I go where I want, I live off of only a few rules, be kind, be helpful, and come back at night. I love this place, I love the people I have met, I am happy here, and if Gordon finds me, I'll make sure he will never take me back.
