The next morning, I found Niall in my kitchen. It was a familiar sight, and I grinned widely when I saw him. "Hey. When did you get here?" I asked as I went over to the stove to put a kettle on.
"Just a few minutes ago, been sitting here," he said. "Waiting for you, of course," he added with a wink.
"Well, aren't you sweet?" I smiled at the blonde boy. To me, he was just Niall. Not the pap-pushing, boy band member. He was the Niall of my childhood, the Niall I was slowly falling for; just Niall.
"Would you like a cuppa?"
"I'd love one, thanks."
Hannah came shuffling in from the hall right then, yawning. "Hey Nialler," she smiled sleepily.
"Hi Han," he waved. "Where's little Jaxie?"
"Still sound asleep. Can I have some of that?" she pointed at the kettle in my hand. I nodded, and retrieve two cups. Once I had poured Hannah hers, she disappeared as quickly as she came.
"She's going through one of those 'I want to be alone all the time' phases," I explained to Niall.
"I can tell," he chuckled. "I used to be like that when I was her age."
"Oh yeah?" I joked. I remembered all the times he used to pout and fuss whenever he had to be around anyone, aside from me. He and I were inseparable.
It had gone silent as we stared at eachother from across the table. I sipped my tea, looking at him. As if on cue, Jax began to call for me, and I rushed to go get him. As soon as he saw Niall, his arms reached out for him.
"Hi buddy," Niall smiled, his ocean eyes shining bright. He took him from my arms, his eyes meeting mine. "You're so beautiful, Win," he murmured suddenly. Butterflies fluttered in my stomach, and I felt my face heating up.
"Niall, it's 8 in the morning; I highly doubt that."
"Jax, do you think Winnie is beautiful?" Niall asked, ignoring my statement, his face nearing closer to mine. I couldn't move an inch; his eyes held me in my tracks.
"Yes she is!" Jax said, tucking his head into Niall's shoulder. The corners of his lips turned up, and I couldn't help but stare at them. They looked so soft, so inviting.
"That proves it then," he whispered.
We were standing in the middle of the kitchen, Jax still nestled into Niall's chest. The tip of his nose touched mine as his eyes smoldered beneath his lashes. My eyes fluttered shut, his warm breath fanning over me. And then his lips gently, perfectly, captured my own.
I was completely overwhelmed with the feeling it gave me, and I couldn't help but smile into him. The kiss was only a few seconds, but in those few seconds I knew there would be many, many more to come. When we broke away, our foreheads leaning against each other, I looked over at Jax who was now peeking at us through his little hands.
I laughed and pressed my lips against his again. "Winnie and Niall are kissing!" Jax shouted, causing me to laugh, and lean into Niall's shoulder more. He held Jax with one arm, and put the other one around my waist.
Hannah walked in with her empty cup, a knowing smile on her face. "What's this?" she asked, coming over to us. Niall blushed, and I rolled my eyes at Hannah. "Come 'ere, group hug," I put my arm around her shoulders, pulling her to me. "I love you, Han," I mumbled.
"Love you too, Win," she whispered.
"Love you three!" Jax smiled.
"Love you four," Niall pressed his lips against my ear, so only I could hear. We stood like that for the rest of the morning.
