"I don't want to be on this planet, let alone this country when that baby is born." I growled.
"Charlie! That is your sister you are talking about!" My father shouted back at me, veins bulging in his neck. He was breathing heavily and looked livid.
"I don't care! Can't you just ask Andrew and Liz please? Just for the summer, then I can come home I just don't want to be around pregnant Megan anymore. She's only going to get worse the further along this pregnancy goes. Let me go to Australia, please Daddy?" I tucked a strand of my blonde hair behind my ear and looked at him hopefully.
He sighed and sat down in his leather armchair before resting his head in his hands. He dragged his hand down his face. He eventually looked over at me. "I will call Andrew tonight, but that doesn't mean they'll say yes-" I beamed at him and threw my arms around him, his stubble scratching my cheek.
I felt his arms reluctantly pull me into an awkward hug as he was still sitting on the armchair while I was half crouched on the ground. He kissed the top of my head and whispered "I wish you would stay though. I want you to be there when the baby is born." His voice was rough and made me feel slightly guilty but I wasn't crazy enough to believe he would even notice my presence when his precious wife was giving birth.
I just prayed Andrew and Liz would say yes. Then I could spend my summer in Sydney. Where the sun is shining, where I would have no evil 'stepmother' on my back, where I would have peace and quiet, well, as much peace and quiet as one can get when living with the Hemmings.
