A/N: I have encountered my first plot hole; hemispheres. Of course it is winter in Australia when it is summer in Ireland, what was I thinking? The boys should be in school and oh god how could I have not noticed this...can we just pretend maybe? Too late to change shit now anyway...haters gonna hate
Chapter Two
The drive to their house wasn't something I couldn't remember too well. Having not slept for long on the plane, I drifted in and out of sleep.
I felt someone nudging my shoulder and opened my eyes to see Jack smirking. "Come on Charlie, you need to stay awake or else you won't sleep tonight. Plus I'm sure Luke wants to see you. " He said the last line sarcastically. He knew just as well as the rest of our family that Luke and I weren't exactly the best of friends.
Luke being almost a full two years my junior we don't get on too well. It's especially because he gets so jealous that Jack practically ignores him whenever I am around.
Liz had already lugged one of my suitcases into the house and Jack grabbed the second one. I was too tired to feel guilty. Stumbling up to the front door behind Jack, I concentrated on keeping my rucksack on my back and not falling asleep mid-stride.
"Now, Chars, you are staying in Ben's old room. You can have a nap now if you want. I'll call you in an hour for lunch and you should probably try to stay awake after that or you'll be tired tonight. Luke!" She shouted and I flinched.
I hear footsteps above me, the noise growing louder as my cousin walked to the top of the stairs.
Luke Hemmings was almost a full two years younger than me and some times, it felt more like twenty. He was a whole foot smaller than me, something that I reckoned wouldn't last long. His trademark blonde Hemmings' hair matched both mine and Jack's perfectly, except he had his styled in a very dramatic fringe. His blue eyes and button nose were things I envied, not to mention his eyelashes.
"Oh, hi Charlie," Just hi? I haven't seen the kid in years and all I get is a hi? Fine then, I see how it is.
"Hi Luke." I said, my voice lacking enthusiasm.
"Luke, your room better not be a mess," Said Liz sternly as she dragged my suitcase upstairs. Jack and I followed after her.
Their house was small compared to my house in Ireland but it wasn't tiny. They had four bedrooms and there wouldn't be enough room for me had Ben not moved out last year.
Ben's old room was where I was sleeping. The walls were still blue but everything else was plain and boring. It was obviously now just a spare room, not Ben's room anymore. Good wardrobe space though thank god. The walls were too bare for my liking but I left all my posters at home because it would have been pointless to bring them over when I'm only staying here for three months.
Liz and Jack left my suitcases at the bottom of my bed. "Okay Charlie, you get settled in, like I said I'll call you in an hour." Liz smiled and turned around then walked out of the room.
Jack threw himself off on the bed. "I see you and Luke still aren't on the best of terms." He joked. I went and sat on the other side of the bed.
"It's not my fault, I never did anything to him. It's because you ignore him when I'm here." I said. It was true. Whenever we did get a chance to meet up, it was obvious that Jack tended to abandon Luke in favour of me. To be fair, Jack and I were closer in age anyway so it made sense for us to be close.
"He'll get over it. You wanna go say hi to his friends?" He smirked. "Calum is 13 but I'm pretty sure Michael is just about your age. I'm sure they'd be happy to see you, if you know what I mean" He laughed.
"Ew shut up Jack, that's just weird," Jack was still laughing but he stood up and dragged me from the bed. "Jack no I look like a mess!" I pleaded with him but his grip on my arm was too strong and so we soon found ourselves at Luke's bedroom door. Jack knocked once before opening the door.
Luke's room was a mess. Liz would not be happy one bit. He had clothes littering every surface, he had a pile of plates on his bedside table and there was half empty glasses dotted all over the room. His single bed was unmade in the corner and in the center of the room sat three boys, Luke, and who I'm guessing was Calum and Michael.
They all held a gaming controller and were so into their game they were playing on Luke's TV, that they barely even registered that me and Jack were there.
"Lukey, you gonna introduce Charlie to your buddies?" Jack said crossing the room to Luke's bed, making sure to give Luke's head a bit of a smack when passing him.
This got Luke's attention and he tore his attention from his game for long enough to realise I was still standing in his doorway.
"What do you want?" He snarled.
"Jesus Luke, no need to be so rude," I said smiling lightly. I then turned my attention to Calum and Michael. "Hey guys, I'm Luke's cousin, Charlie." I said trying to sound polite. I got the vibe that I would be seeing a lot of Michael and Calum this summer.
The boy with tanned skin turned around first. His fringe matched Luke, but wasn't as dramatic. He had a wrist full of surfer bracelet's and wristbands. He was super skinny and his big brown eyes were staring into my soul.
"I'm Calum." He offered me a small smile but he attention was pulled back to his game when both Luke and Michael started laughing.
"Rule number one of Xbox Calum, don't take you eyes off the screen." Said Michael quite seriously. He had yet to acknowledge me, not that I cared. I would just prefer not to have to deal with two more Lukes for the summer.
"Well, there's Australian hospitality for you Charlie. We should probably leave them to their game. They take this gamer shit pretty seriously. Come on, see you losers!" And with that Jack walked out the door, waving to the three boys, not that they saw him anyway. I followed.
"Are they always that talkative?" I asked laughing.
"Yep, especially Michael. Can't shut the guy up."
"Good to know." I couldn't disguise my yawn. "So fucking tired," I mumbled.
"Go get a nap while you can. Celeste will be around later anyway. She really wants to meet you. I think she want to go to the beach maybe? Show you around a bit. If you're not too tired." He got to the top of the stairs and waited for my answer.
"Cool, yeah I'd love that. I can't wait to meet her either. Judging by the reaction I got in Luke's room, you and Celeste are gonna have me all to yourselves this summer." He laughed.
"No problem Charles, it would be our honour to be your adoptive friends for the next three months. Who wants to hang out with a couple of emo-fringe loving- freaks anyway? Luke's my brother but...no, just no. We'll show you how Aussies do summer."
"I look forward to it. We'll talk more later, I'm about ready to collapse with tiredness." I said, already walking towards Ben's- no, my room.
He simply saluted me before walking down the stairs.
I do no even remember opening the door or getting under the covers of the bed or drifting off into a nice peaceful sleep...
