This is what I started to work on when we got a season 3 sneak peek. It's based on the moment where Jughead is screaming for help near two unconscious people.
R.I.P Dilton Doiley and that Ben dude. We miss you.
This is more Sweet Pea/Fangs/Veronica/Betty centered than Bughead centered.
The later part of this is mostly from Fangs' perspective, therefore the weird word usage and such. He's my baby so I decided that I'd bless you with a cute little Fangs insight.
I'm sorry I haven't updated in 2 months (omg I suck lmao) but life stood in the
way :(In an old and dusty hospital waiting room you see three types of people; one, the type that can't take the wait and therefore think it's a good idea to pace around the room and give anyone who dares to look at them a cold stare. Two, the person who yells at the receptionist. And three, the one who is just sitting somewhere and staring out in space, either too tired or too shocked to function.
This particular day in Riverdale, all these types were in the waiting room of the hospital, waiting to hear about the condition of the young Serpent Queen, Betty Cooper. There are four people in the waiting room for her; Jughead Jones, Fangs Fogarty, Veronica Lodge, and Sweet Pea, whose real name is still unknown.
Earlier in the night Jughead had been the witness to the cult's horrid initiation that Betty had been forced by her own mother to complete. Determined to not be seen, Jughead hid behind a bush, having his Serpents on his phone the whole time, ready to call them over. When disaster actually hit his own girlfriend, he forced the Serpents to come with a car, ready for the worst. Jughead, being totally unaware of the cruelty of the cult, rushed to her aid, and starting to desperately clean her wounds with his shirt.
In the hospital waiting room, all these three types of people were being displayed on their finest. Fangs Fogarty was the type to pace around while throwing death stares in every direction. Sweet Pea thought the wait would go faster if he yelled at the young receptionist, what a surprise, right? And Veronica Lodge, last but not least, she had found a good spot in the middle of the waiting room, with her head resting on the shoulder of the Serpent King from time to time.
Jughead, being the most worried of them all, managed to be all of the three types. He yelled at the receptionist for not giving him information about which room she was in and what her current condition was. He paced around and gave everyone, even Sweet Pea, a death stare. But most of his time was spent next to Veronica in an old and dusty gray plastic chair. Not doing anything else but waiting for news regarding his girl.
When in a situation like this, time is the only enemy you have. Seconds feel like minutes, minutes feel like hours and hours feel like an eternity. The concept of time is totally lost upon you. The wait will eventually make you numb to the rest of the world. Later in the night, when the only light in the town came from the hospital Sweet Pea's yelling had stopped. Fangs' pacing stopped. The four teens all sat together in the small room. Huddled together. The silence between them held meaning. It was as if the silence was the only words that held them. That comforted them. That protected them from the rest of the world. And maybe that's why the teens avoided any form of communication. Their feelings didn't require it. They didn't require it.
Eventually a young nurse came out to the gang, a small smile on her face.
"Ms. Cooper is ready for you now. Be careful with her though."
Jughead flew out of his seat and rushed to her room, his beanie and jacket since long forgotten. Left in the waiting room were now three sickly worried friends. And a nurse.
"So, uh, he ran." Veronica stated while yawning and brushing her fingers through her hair. Sweet Pea, who had now taken Jughead's place as a headrest, let out a laugh and put his arm around Veronica's waist.
"That he did, you'll do the same in a few seconds though, babe." He said through a yawn. He looked down at the much shorter girl and Fangs, who now just observed the couple in front of him, couldn't help but to literally get tears in his eyes because of the love one simple look held. If it were not for his own bae, Kevin, he would feel incredibly lonely.
Kevin and Archie had called him earlier in the night, asking about Betty. They were away at another school for a wrestling tournament and they even considered going home just to see Betty. Fangs managed to convince them not to. Listen to this, Fangs had convinced his boyfriend Kevin Keller (sigh, he's never going to get tired of calling Kevin his boyfriend) that they didn't have to come, as long as Kevin promised Fangs some alone time, if you know what I mean.
Minutes later a nurse came out to the teens and told them that they could go in to their friend, but that they should be prepared for a sleeping boyfriend. Sweet Pea, who now had a sleeping Veronica Lodge in his lap just nodded towards his best friend, telling him to go in. So he did.
Opening the door slowly and carefully a Jughead, sleeping half on Betty and using her...human milk producers as a pillow, came into Fangs' sight. Even though Betty mere hours ago had been throwing up all the meals she had eaten in the last hours and had been bleeding from a large part of her body, Fangs had never seen her as happy and content before.
"Hi Fangs. How're you doing?" Her voice was raspy, but it still warmed his heart hearing it.
"Good and uhm...well I'm good." Fangs had never been a good conversationalist "oh! How are you doing? Maybe that's the more important question."
"Y'know Frankie, I thought I'd feel like shit, but honestly I've never been happier." Betty was the only one who was allowed to call Fangs by his real name, Frankie, except Kevin.
"Okay, that's weird. Kevin told me that you'd probably shoo everyone away. I guess he was wrong." Betty smiled at the blood rushing up Fangs' cheek at the mention of his bae.
"He's right, you know. If this happened a year ago I'd shoo everyone away. But here I am, my family with me." She gestured towards Jughead as she said the f-word. "And the best friends a girl could ask for. It's good now."
"Aren't you like, you know, mad at your mom?"
"I am. This summer has been so turbulent and I guess this is just the cherry on top of a chaotic milkshake. I don't want to go back to our house." She didn't say home. And that didn't surprise Fangs, the only place she'd ever be able to call home nowadays was her special place in Jughead's arms with his head on hers. Maybe that was for the best.
"Jughead's gonna fix this, y'know." His voice started to quiver a bit because of the stressing environment that existed at the hospital and he slowly moved towards the door.
"I know." Her hand was now stroking Jughead's hair and she planted a kiss on top of his head.
"He really loves you, Cooper." He said and opened the door behind him.
"I know. I know." It was the last thing he heard before he slowly closed the door behind him.
