I know I've talked about this in the Mary Sue parts but I wanted to give it its own chapter so- also using a different OC sdjakaaa
Personalities, the basic structure of an OC. Are they kindhearted and humble, or violent and intense? Maybe they're a mix of bother perhaps?
Well, the perfect combination is a few positive traits and a few negative traits! My OC, Carmen Prince is has a positive outlook on life. She's very humble but also very stubborn. Carmen is very naive and brutally honest. She's a horrible actor and always fumbles on her words while in front of a new person. Carmen is a very lazy person and a procrastinator.
OC's tend to have too many positive traits as their creators tend to make them like able. 'Like-able' isn't always super positive. 'Like-able' is relatable and a big fat mood. Like, Carmen is lazy and a procrastinator. That's relatable, isn't it? You get a better connection with the MC/OC, don't you?
Positive traits aren't necessarily "good", they just usually affect the OC in a positive way.
Examples of positive traits: kind, intelligent, clever, ambitious, geeky, humble, sweet, quick learner, witty, loyal, optimistic, talented, flexible (meaning okay with whatever), creative
There's a middle. They can affect the OC in both a negative or positive way depending on the way the OC acts when the trait is being shown/written into the story.
Examples of middle traits: inquisitive, confident, childish, honest, over-achiever/hard-worker, active, brave, loner, shy, romantic/flirty.
Negative traits affect the OC negatively. They're not just "bad"
Examples of negative traits: jealous, hot-headed, annoying, rude, cold, stubborn, snob, lazy, lousy, slob, gluttonous, angry, narcissistic, etc.
I wanna point out that all traits can go sour or sweet! Kindness can go naive, hard-worker/ambitious can become an workaholic, shyness can go to extreme and can cause severe problems to happen without communication!
