the fourth night

hades didn't want to be there.

not when he could be with arte.

the hollering drunken boys laughed at the uncomfortable outcast. hades' friends weren't with him tonight to keep him less awkward. one of the boys- known as liam- held tightly onto a familar red head, one that had always been around artemis.

hades recognized her immediately; attempting to remember her name, he frowned.

"aria, be a good girl and pass me a beer," slurred liam. she nodded obediently, smirking as her hand extended to find the warm beer bottle.

hades started backing away, knowing aria knew he and arte were meeting up at night. exactly where she and arte used to, not to mention. he didn't see them together anymore in the walls, arte now kept to herself.

he found his way out of there, clutching his phone. he clenched his jaw when he heard the girl speak faintly.

"no baby, artemis doesn't know. she thinks i'm out of town with my family. poor bitch," she laughed. he turned back, taking a quick photo of aria and the boys.

he ran out of there.

finding artemis shortly after, she was wearing another large sweater covering up to the palms in her hands. he held in a breath, plopping down beside her.

"you're late," the girl whispered with a frown.

"i know," hades sighed.

"why?" she wondered.

"aria isn't out of town," he blurted. he cursed himself at his blatent bluntness.

she stared at him, as he showed her the recent photo, as well as the voice memo. hurt pools in her eyes, he immediately felt horrible.

she bit her lip and looked away. laughing bitterly, she smiled.

"i knew it, no one could ever stay," she muttered. he understood her words, but not the reason behind him.

"i could," he whispered.

she scoffed. "you don't even know me, hades."

he shrugged.

"i could."
