Finding Trouble

It was warm. As I recall. Not at the weather I was predicting for this day. Although it made conditions much more easier for the mission I was on. Blood Fang needed a mate. Or wanted one. And A few high level rex chicks around my base wouldn't be all that bad.

I had already gotten permission from Dire. Normally he wouldn't want anyone to have such a powerful beast higher then 100 (wild level). However, I think he trusts me enough. And why wouldn't he?

I've done nothing but helped the tribe since my welcoming ceremony. Running errands, completing dangerous tasks, filling in for my tribe-mates, and even taking the blame for something I didn't do. Even though I'm pretty sure that Dire knew it wasn't me.

Perhaps he even plans on naming me an admin as well! He's been hinting on wanting another admin. So me and one of the other women in the tribe have potential.

Perhaps letting me tame a high level beast is his way of telling me that I'm at the front!

Blood fang walked quickly. I could tell that despite my thoughts, he had his own. And he knew exactly where to go. It was only a few days ago since we were last at the location. I recall riding on one of my first pteranodon. And spotting her on the neighboring mountain.

A level 145 female rex. What are the odds? Although her colors weren't the prettiest, I don't care. She was strong. Very strong. And you would think a creature so powerful Dire would save for himself.

For whatever reason he doesn't own any. Perhaps after that Quetzal incident, he decided that he didn't like them. Oh well. More power on my side I guess.

Blood Fang hurried across the river. His destination, Far's Peak. What we also call Giga's drop. The amount of Gigas that I've seen on that mountain are absolutely terrifying. That's also where Dire tamed his. Slade.

Although Blood Fang didn't seem to care. Perhaps he thought the tranqs would be able to take down such beasts. He was wrong. Gigas are the terror of the island. I titanosaur might be able to overpower it, but certainly can't outrun it.

Almost nothing could from what I understand. The crumbling of rocks spooked me. My fear of these boss level beasts getting the best of me. Although I saw nothing more then a few sabors, ankys, scorpians and stegos. Nothing really to fear on the back of a powerful rex.

It had been almost 24 hours since I last saw the female rex. Hopefully it didn't wander too far away. Taking a deep breath, I encouraged Blood Fang to move on. We would return later to harvest the meat. And of course pluck some for Pygmy, who certainly would not let me forget my promise.

A distant roar halted me to a stop. The green figure appeared faintly in the trees. There she was. Quite the tame, quite the rex. She was extraordinary. Destroying anything that dared to cross her path. Blood Fang seemed almost frightened at the sight of her. As he wouldn't move anymore.

There was little doubt that I was on my own with this one. Big surprise.

I yanked the reins away from his mouth, which almost like he had been bitten, made Blood Fang jump.

"Come on," I snapped in a hushed voice. "I'm certainly not going to tame her while you're in the middle of everything..."

Blood Fang almost looked offended. Although he listened. What else was he to do? Even if he tried, taking on such a high level would leave him at death's door. I took a deep breath and tucked him into the forest. Once again there was nothing here that threatened him.

I dismounted. Sliding down his tail, Blood Fang looked back at me hesitantly. Although I wasn't in the mood to being guilt by a massive lizard. I had to stay focused. Taking on a creature as big as this on my own was suicidal. Perhaps that's why Dire allowed my to go through.

This could be a test. Or it could be him attempting to get me killed. Perhaps he knows of my increasing curiosity. Maybe he knows of the information I gather. Maybe he wants to finally have a reason to go through all the notes I have written. At this point, who really knows?

At that moment, I had much bigger things to worry about. The Rex was busy stuffing its face with its recently killed stego.  It was basically asking to be tamed. It wouldn't take that long to knock out (hopefully) not with the amount of tranq darts I had brought.

With another deep breath, I took my aim. Right for the head. Where the most torpor would have been dealt. The trigger clicked, and the rifle recoiled, the dart struck its target. All I remember seeing was little red feathers protruding the rex's thick hide. She lifted her head for a moment and stared at me. It was almost like she had never seen a human before.

I didn't hesitate. If I had, that was more of a chance to be devoured. I reloaded and fire again. The rex finally seemed to realize what a threat I actually was. She braced herself, and let out a mighty roar that was loud enough to put a bronto in shock.

When the fear had subsided, I fired again. This time she was on a mission. She abandoned the stego and charged for me. She was awful fast for a wild rex, but not fast enough. I picked up my gear and ran as fast as I could. The heavy footsteps slowly growing distant behind me.

My training certainly was not in vain. The speed and stamina I had acquired was useful in keeping me out of the jaws of the rex. It was just the same as taming a sabor. I thought to myself. A really, really, big sabor, with large teeth and the biteforce to snap sauropod vertebra. whatever help that did to my growing anxiety.

The tyrant seemed to have attracted the attention  of nearby pulmonoscorpius. Oh great. That's exactly what I needed to trail me. With a grunt I recall turned as quickly as I could manage. Another Dart left the barrel and pierced the Rex's thick hide. How much longer would this take?
