Chapter 10

To my surprise there was very few guards on our way to the keep and any that were foolish to try and attack us were dead before they could even finish drawing their blades. We arrived at the grand double doors and I pull Greg aside. 
"I need you to head back to the town and gather everyone to the center square where we I will fight David for the right to rule." I say softly. Greg just simply nodded and headed back the way we came. 

Taking a deep breath I open the grand double doors and expecting their to be men on the other side waiting for me I was surprised to see that it was empty beside David sitting on the throne. "Before you speak and challenge me to a dual I will tell you I've already accepted and that your death will be swift and painless. Meet in the center square in 20 minutes. Be prepared to die." David said cockily.

Walking out of the castle I wondered how he knew I was going to ask that of him but at the same time it didn't really matter in the end one of us will die the other will live. I had the place surrounded anyways so their was no escape for him. When I reached the cobblestone bridge I almost fell over from the pain from my right leg. Now that I had been out of combat for some time the pain was finally hitting me. My almost fall to the ground did not go unnoticed seconds later I found Greg pulling me up and escorting me to the makeshift command center they had made.
"Sir we need to get you stitched up and ready for the upcoming battle. Rumor has it that David has not been outmatched in his use of his blade. Your going to have to keep your wits about yourself if you plan to be victorious." Greg said quickly. I simply just nodded and I was escorted inside where Greg began stitching me up. We were both silent except the occasional grunt of pain that escaped my lips. Once he was done I headed outside and saw my opponent.

He was wielding sword and a shield and was wearing the same combat suit I was wearing that allowed him to be as agile as me. When were face to face a citizen came down and told us each the rules. This was a battle to the death whoever won would be king no questions asked. We circled each other for awhile waiting to see who would make the first move. I dash in striking as fast as a adder sword pointed at his right leg to remove that leg from use. But with what seemed like impossible speed David swung his shield hand and I ate a mouthful of shield leaving me dazed and shaken. David using this to his advantage ran forward aiming to take my head off. I barely block the blow with my own sword. David jumps back and beckons me to charge him. I follow through with a charge but I did something sneaky. Just as I was about to be in striking range I quickly swapped what hands were holding what weapons and David couldn't react fast enough and his head went to the ground hitting the cobblestone with a small a small thud. But I didn't escape unharmed while switching I had left my left side open to attack and had been sliced open. Clutching my side I raise the head of David before being escorted by Greg to the castle medbay to treat my injuries. Shortly after entering the medbay I lost all conscious though and feel into the sea of darkness. 

"This is not your time to die. Stand Axel son of Zeus." That feminine voice from such long ago said into the sea of darkness. The sound waves from her voice shooting me out of the sea and drying me at the same time. They carried me throughout the darkness till I was in front of female with a powerful aura similar to that of Hades. I start trying to struggle free from the chains of sound to draw my blade, but it was a waste of valuable energy the chains didn't budge.

"Who are you! Release me at once I'm more important than any other living being on this accursed planet!" I yell out willing my voice not to break. By now I was practically face to face with this creature and looking at her from head to toe I see she is unarmed. "Why do you haunt my mind demon?" I ask slowly. The creature just laughed at me before speaking.

"I am no demon, I actually am the opposite. I am Hera wife of Zeus and your mother." She said softly and I felt my chains slowly fading away like rushing water passing over me. "You must head to the last remaining human town there you will find where to head next. Make haste for DarkWood my child the fate of the world depends on it."  I fell back into the cold darkness till I sat up laying in a bed.

The room I was in was brightly lit and very well furnished. A massive wardrobe that shone that blood red with jewels on the door handles. Well crafted bedside tables were on either side of me. I start moving to get up and felt a sting of pain come from my side. Looking down I see my left side heavily bandaged from the seam of my pants to halfway up my chest. Grunting through the pain I finally stand upon my feet and realized where I was. I was in the kings quarter's. I was king yet I couldn't stay to rule. Not even including the fact that I'm not human I'm actually the son of Zeus and Hera. So many questions filled my mind but just as they appeared they were swept away by a current of darkness. Now was not the time to be questioning anything. Now was the time to save this accursed planet. 

Walking out of my quarters I witness a true king in action. Greg were ordering the other soldiers from Millderton like a true leader. When Greg saw me he turned away and ran up to me. "How are you feeling King Axel? You've been out for the past 4 days we have been worried you wouldn't make it but it seems you have someone helping you. When you were first injured you had a deep cut and over the days your skin has been regrowing filling the injury with fresh flesh. Yesterday you just had a nasty looking scar. I wouldn't be surprised if it was fully healed now." He replied in awe also gesturing me to undress the dressings. 

"I'm only king for a short while. I can't stay here I feel my journey is coming to an end. I want you to rule in my stead Greg you have a true heart and are skilled with your blade. Keep this city from falling. This city is the only way to DarkWood as long as this city stands I will be left undisturbed on my journey on wards." I say undressing the wound and when done to my surprise there was not even a scar. 

"With all due respect sir I want to come with you. We all do." He said and all the soldiers from Millderton appeared behind him nodding their heads. "While you slept another issue has occurred. We have been attacked every night and morning and we are running out of men to fight. We have already evacuated the city but we refused to leave your side. We are coming with you whether you like it or not." He said grandly a smile on his face. 

I look at all these familiar faces all filled with bravery and determination, they weren't going to take no for an answer. " Fine but just know that chances of all of us coming back from this alive are slim to none. We set off tonight under the cover of darkness. Gather only what you need and be prepared to set off." I say resigned to the fact that most of these men will die. The men were cheering for a long while before they gave me a bear hug and set off to pack. What have I done now I think to myself.
