It was a pretty morning, waking up right before the sun came over the horizon and seeing that for the first time was like magic. After the sun had risen fully I started preparing for the trip back to where my life began. To be honest I was not looking forward to it but I didn't explore that place fully and their may be answers there for my many questions. I keep reliving my last conversation with Barrett before he had gotten sniped from that bloody cliff. It had felt so good to have someone to talk to, but sadly it was not to last. I should cook one of the cans of baked means i think miserably to myself, going to need a fire for that though. So i set off to go collect firewood.
It took me awhile to find firewood due to having to backtrack to the oasis and collect it from their due to the sandy area around my cave not having any burnable wood. Many thoughts are roaming around my mind as I start to rub the two sticks together, I've noticed that while I may not remember anything from my past like memories I do somehow know how to survive. It makes me wonder before whatever happened that made me lose my memory if I had been a survivor, it makes sense after all everything I know like how to make a fire and my way around combat even though I'm not fighting shows that I have I don't know maybe muscle memory still but no actual memory of the past. I'm so caught in my thinking that I at first don't realize that I had a flame alive right below my hands due to a spark finally appearing from the friction and I jumped back to stop myself from being burnt. Now that the fire is burning strong lets cook some beans. Part of me feels like I should just wait till I get to the oasis to feed myself because then I can save the cans for when I have no other choice. Heck I was just at the oasis collecting firewood why didn't I just eat some more of juicy fruits and that way I wasn't in this situation. No point not cooking the beans now though I already made a fire, shaking my head I open up the valuable can of beans, while the beans were cooking my head started hurting and everything went black.
"Axel", a feminine voice whispered to me. Except it wasn't being said in the actual world it was in my head like a dream. I try to get up but something is holding me down, it's so dark in this realm that it felt like you were underwater. "Axel" the voice came again. "Who's there!!!" I yell into the darkness, except for it didn't come out as if I was yelling it came out as a whisper. "Hush child, be silent and listen to me carefully" I waited and waited then she continued. "You are very special in this world. You have the most important role to play in saving this world, as you have began to put together you may have no past but you have a lot of skills that take a lot of time to learn. Like how to survive how to handle yourself in combat, and many others that you will find out as you need them. You must head to security office in the jail you began your journey, we will be in touch now go." "Wait I don't understand don't-" I began and then everything got so bright and I was then back in the real world with a massive headache.
That was beyond weird it's as if a god spoke to me, and put my baked beans into a bowl in front of me? I stare at the bowl and begin to question my sanity, first I get talked to by some female in the dark and now without even having a bowl beforehand my beans are in a bowl in front of me. I ate my beans in silence, I can't let my mind play tricks on me I need to focus on completing my mission. Five minutes later I had finish cleaning up camp and had made it very difficult to tell that anyone had been here, I don't know what could be looking for me so better be safe than sorry. Putting all of my equipment back into my pack and started the journey back to my birth place, what could go wrong?
"It's so bloody hot" I mutter to no one. Trudging through the desert dunes knowing that any point I could be shot at was somewhat exciting yet frightening at the same time. Whatever I was before this be it a military soldier or just a survivor I crave adventure and action. Something Barrett said makes me wonder if I should head for the jail or try and find this town we were heading to. The voice told me to head to the jail and find the security office, but I don't have many supplies and if I end up getting trapped in there with my minimal supplies I could die. Plus no one has the right to tell me what to do, I'm my own person ain't I? Screw it I'm heading for the town and somehow I had a feeling that I knew exactly where Barrett was shot, he would've had to have a map. Wouldn't he? It's decided then lets go see the rest of humanity, assuming me being there doesn't get them kill....
My sense once again didn't lie to me after a short walk I came across Barrett's remains, looked like the sniper didn't come and loot his kill. Patting Barrett down it reminded me of when i first me him waking up to him shaking me down for loot to also survive as I am now. Shaking the thought from my head going through his backpack I find a few more cans of different food, another canteen. No map in his backpack, not a great sign but still need to search his actual person. Yes, in his back pocket is a map and the nearest town is only a hour away! Millderton huh, as long as I can restock on supplies and get a actual bed to sleep in. I moan in the thought of sleeping in a actual bed. Time to start walking but I need to be vigilante because you never know when a sniper may be. "Rest in peace Barrett may you find safe haven in heaven" closing his eyes for him since he could no longer do so I set off.
Millderton was bigger than I expected it to be, when I crossed over the hill and saw the massive steel walls shining in the evening sun it shocked me I thought that it would be just a few houses maybe a inn. I may not have memory of what towns looked like in the past but considering how 90% of the world is dead this is more organised than I thought it would be, I expected chaos. I took off the towel I had wrapped around my head and threw it to the ground and looked at myself through the reflection of my canteen. The top right of my face was a dark red where I had hit the boulder. Putting the canteen away I think to myself that while it's better than actually having a towel on my head it's not great. That being said chicks dig scars don't they?
When I arrived at the gate to the enter I was immediately stopped by this war hardened man. "We don't get many visitors here, what is your business here?" I debated lying to him but instead I showed him the note I found on the girl which I still didn't know the name of. "I think this can explain who I am more so than I know who I am, Sir." The man looked at me for a hard moment and then unfolded the note and read it in silence, it felt like it took ages for him to finish reading. "So your the chosen one ey, You are going to come with me to see the village elder. Come along now please." I debated resisting but that wouldn't look good considering I did come here looking for help and supplies, I followed him through town.
Once inside the town I started to see the chaos I had first expected to see, houses were made out of mismatch construction supplies such as wood, brick and concrete. Most houses were damaged and needed desperate repairs and some didn't even have a roof! " If I may ask sir, what has happened here everything is so mess broken and I have yet to see a single person." I asked politely, "Well we are one of the only three towns still standing and almost daily we are attacked by the undead which out number us 9 to 1." he responded gruffly. I took a moment before asking, " Undead?" He looked at me briefly as if wondering how I was unaware of the undead before replying with, " Yes the undead, as you know due to the gods disappearing a curse was brought upon us and Hades raised an army of undead from the 90% of the world that died from the dragons unleashed from the heavens, since then we haven't seen the dragons but if they attacked us we would be destroyed. I can see you have one of the last remaining firearms in this world." "What do you mean last, what do you guys use if not guns to fight these undead and dragons?" I responded with curiosity, "Swords axes bows, we haven't had gunpowder in forever otherwise we would be able to slaughter each wave of undead." My shock must've been obvious to the man, he handed me a sword and shield. "Save your ammunition when facing dragons otherwise use melee almost as effective." replied the man. I thanked the man politely for the advice and weapons before we arrived at the castle where I assumed the elder was. "The elder is just inside please answer all his questions honestly, in ya go." I walked up the steps wondering how I would get him to provide help and supplies when this village can barely help themselves.
