It's been three years since Rio left. He never gave me a proper break up. Maybe that's why I still for him. I misunderstood the gestures, his sweet innocent eyes, his embrace, and most of all; His words.
I was at the sweet age of sixteen, attending my last year as a highschool student and Rio and I were classmates. I wanted to do good for my last year at St. Peter's Fort. Good grades would mean honors at the end of the year. Honors mean free college tuition or at least a 50-70% discount.
Life in the Philippines is depressing. It can deprive you of basic privileges. As for my case, it deprived me of having a better education.
I remember it so clearly. I really wish I don't. The day I met the biggest mistake I ever made. The day Rio walked into my life~
"i bet you don't know what this is" a voice suddenly echoed from my front. I saw a familiar face. I think he was a classmate way back freshmen year. Ah, Ronie. The guy with a twin brother.
"Hi Ronie. What is it this time" I answered blankly as I continued to scribble on my notebook. English is my favorite subject and I just can't help myself from jotting down all the boring stuff the teacher is saying.
I heard a muffled giggle from Ronie so I looked up to him and sent him a questioning look.
"I'm not Ronie four-eyes *giggle* Guess again"
Did this impertinent prick just call me 'four-eyes'! "But yo-" Then I remembered "Oh! oh. Are you the other twin by any chance?"
"Ding ding ding ding! Bingo! You win the prize. Now pick a prize. Any prize" he held out his hands which were both closed into fists and gestured me to choose one.
"Uhhmm.. this one?"
As soon as my index finger touched his fist, he scooped up my hand and kissed the back of my palm in one swift movement.
"Smart ladies need a kiss on the hand." *wink* with that statement he turned around and my teacher called my name.
"Well Marice?" the teacher said. I blanked out. I was mesmerized by this confusing twin or doppleganger or whatever he was.
He looked back at me. He was smirking. Way to ruin my day! Oh! The humiliation of being questioned and yet have no idea what was going on.
"I uhh.. this uhm"
Then the classroom fell into a chorus of muffled laughter and giggles.
"Can anyone else answer my question? Anyone?" the teacher said. I was speechless for a moment, trying to handle the first experience of blanking out on my favorite subject.
The doppleganger turned his head once more. A smirk painted upon his face. I still couldn't decide what to feel. Irritated? No. I wasn't mad, but I should be! Why am I smiling at him? Arch your eyebrows. Glare. Glare. Glare! Why isn't my body listening to me!
He covered his mouth with his right hand and whispered "I'm Rio. Ronie's brother. No need to look at me so lovingly four-eyes."
He's so arrogant! Yet completely charming. What is happening! Tell me I'm.. No! I'm on my senior year. I just can't! can't can't can't can't. Can'tadoodles! Blubber blubber bleeaaach..
Boom!
Oh my god. His back does look a bit sexy. I hate whispering. Yet it seemed okay when he did it. What is happening to me!
Darn it.
So it starts.
***The next chapter is a mixture of the character's present life along with memories of her past. For those of you who find it confusing, here's a hint: The capitalized letters indicate her past memories while the non-capitalized ones are about her present. Enjoy reading folks~
