I slowly walked toward where the small dining room area was and saw many new faces that seemed very eager and curious to meet me. I hesitantly pulled out an empty chair and sat at the large table with many other Children ranging from about 5 years old to about 15. So many new people all at once. I quietly sat until breakfast was served. Yum I thought as I ate my strawberry waffles. I wasn't the most outgoing to children so I ate my breakfast in peace with the sound of the others in the background.
After we were all done eating I was directed to a large room filled with toys and games where children sped past me to get to the games first. At I walked a small girl maybe the age of 9 introduced herself as Maggie and told me all about her time here in the orphanage. She seemed very happy to talk to me and tell me all her stories.I had made a friend. At least I now I have someone to sit and talk with. She wasn't your average 9 year old...she was very calm and well mannered just very quiet and content.
By the end of my first day Maggie was really the only person I talked to. But I was okay with that she was enough for now...I was very overwhelmed with my new fast paste environment. Maggie said it may seem crazy but after a while it will feel more like home.
Although I am still curious as to how I got here and why I am here. I can't seem to remember much from last night, or at all really. I mean I imagine I have a mom and a dad just like everyone else but I don't know here they are and why I'm here. Was I left? Was I lost? I'm not quite sure.
The next few days came and gone and the whole thing seemed kinda routine... wake up, eat, talk with Maggie, eat again, go outside, eat again, get really for bed then it all starts over the next morning. This place is kinda boring.
I had began to ask Maggie more about what will happen later. She told me about how families will come and meet all of us then they pick one child to go home with them and live a happy life away from here. They become like the other children with moms and dads unlike us. I began to wonder what if Maggie gets adopted and she leaves me here all on my own. what would I do? There will be no one to talk to...but that is a thing of the future. Maggie has seen many children come and go and she is still here. I think she had given up home of being adopted.
