A little too warm

Clari slept the rest of the day, waking up every so often when she rolled on her arm in her sleep.

-------

Wulf was scouting out the area, the animals had seemed to burrow deeper today. There was no fresh scat and that had him worried.

He remembered something his grandfather had told him once, "when the animals go deeper you should too. Bad weather is about to arrive." he had said, when Wulf was a young boy and they went hunting. The situation was similar to this. The following morning there was a blizzard.

Wulf made his way back to the igloo, this time dragging a deer, he burried it in the snow closer to the shelter. Then he poked his head in to check on Clari, she was sleeping again. Wulf quietly crawled in, taking off a glove a placing the back of his hand on her forehead, it was very hot and sweat was gathering. He swore and then scrambled out of the igloo, setting about boiling water in his pot. Then he let the water cool while he made the walls of the shelter thicker, he knew there was nobody for miles around and he knew nothing about herbs.

When the water was cool enough he brought the pot inside, dipping a cloth into the water and placing the cold rag on Clari's forehead to keep the fever down.

Her breath was short and fast, like she was running. Wulf didn't know much about taking care of sick people, he knew what he did from watching his mother take care of his little brother when he got the sickness that took his life.

His mother sang lullabies to his brother when he tossed and turned, so Wulf uneasily started to sing,  he hoped his voice wasn't terrible enough to wake her up. He knew sleep was good when you were sick.

" My precious one, my tiny one, lay down your pretty head. My    dearest one, my sleepy one, its time to go to bed.  "

he sang, as he refreshed the rag and continued.

"My precious one, my darling one don't let your lashes weep.     My cherished one my weary one it's time to go to sleep.

Just bow your head and give your cares to me. "

Wulf didn't know what else to do to help so he gently rubbed her back he was struggling to rember the last two verses. The third came to him slowly.

"Just close your eyes and fall into the sweetest dream, cause in    my loving arms. You're safe as you will ever be. so hush my dear    and sleep. "

The rest eluded him as he heard the wind pick up, and start whirling over the igloo. Amid the chaos he thought he heard the eerie howl of a wolf, Wulf's heart stopped for a moment thinking over the events of that morning and the depth of Clari's wound.

There was no other explanation, the wolf that was out there, had been here. He set his mind on getting revenge on the wolf for hurting Clari, and when he set his mind on something he always did it.
