My best male and only friend, Josh and I sat on the grass outside the cafeteria.
"Kiera where are you going for summer?" I looked at Josh quickly
"Josh! You know I'll only be hanging with you. I'm anti social and your my only friend so don't-"
My crush entered my view and everything in my world vanished. All my focus was on him and him alone.
"Tiara? Hello, what are you looking at?" Josh shook his hand in front of my face but I was only focused on one thing.
"Jayden!" I said a bit too loudly because he looked in my direction.
"Hey Kiera. How's it been?" Jayden said so heavenly at me. Josh knew what's going to happen if I open my mouth. We've been best friends since we were running around in our underwear, around the house, at 3. I got too nervous around Jayden.
"Sorry Jay but we can't talk. We were just going. Maybe K can talk later?"
"Uh sure. See ya K" then Jayden winked and walked away. I must've looked like a gaping fish with my mouth open. Jayden Fryer fricken' winked at ME!
"He. Winked... Josh! He winked at me!" I was beaming but josh looked grim.
"Tiara I need to go somewhere".
"Sure. I'm just going to read in my special place. What period is next?"
"Fourth period and English. Yes I'll sit with you. No I won't be back until that subject. Bye Tiara"
"Bye..." Josh walked away and I was left alone. I hated being alone. I walked quickly to my spot underneath the jacaranda tree in our school. But I was never alone with my books. They spoke to me and welcomed without hesitation. I could've gotten lost in their pages for hours. Each word had a meaning that created a line. Each line could create paragraphs and pages. Each page could create a chapter full of excitement and adventure. And each chapter could create a book in different genres. Each book had characters that were going through problems that all worked out. But In the real world, boys don't just love below-ordinary girls like me. I wished I was a story in a book.
"Look at her all alone! Does she have friends?"
"I heard she is dating the football captain, smartest boy in the school Josh!"
"The Josh? Her? Him? Every girl is falling over him and he ends up with her!"
"He probably feels sorry for her. He is just that nice. But I agree. Her?!" Their whispers I could hear. I slammed my book shut and ran to the toilets. My tears and i had a race to see who was the fastest. They were faster and I got stares. The stares never helped me. "What is Josh doing!? He leaves me and this happens! They don't know either of us and they have the right to say that stuff! Josh would've known what to do..." My thoughts hurt me more than a knife could have. Each insult made me numb inside. Everything was hard in high school. All the pressure was on you. And what sucked more was the hormones that being 17 gave you. I cleared myself up. If I was normal I would be fixing my makeup or fixing my hair. I would have girls next to me cheering me up. People were running around like lunatics outside. I didn't hear the bell. Lukewood State High is cheap. They need money desperately. Our bell was so awesome. It was the office ladies over the loudspeaker,
"Lunch times over. Go learn. Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. Kiera Noel please come to the office with your bag" I stopped where I was and a little grade 7 stepped on my heels.
"Oh God! What did I do? I haven't done anything! Where is Josh!?" I started hyperventilating.
"Sorry kid" is all I can manage to say. I speed walked to the office, waving my good mornings to the teachers who I walked past. When the sliding doors opened, there were three people waiting for me. A man in a business suit, my aunt, and the principal.
"What's going on?" I ask confused as all hell. My aunt walks to me and gently says,
"Kiara, we're... worried about you." I look at my aunt in confusion. Why would she worry?
"Kiara, we've decided to... help you." I'm speechless. What am I meant to do?
"How are you going to help me when there is nothing wrong?" I say as calmly as I can muster.
"We're sending you home for a little bit. All your class work is going to be given to your aunt. But the staff and I believe you need a break to... collect yourself." I've never liked the principal, but her sentence infuriates me.
"I don't need to collect myself! I'm fine and happy with the way things are! And hypothetically, if things were bad, I can't just run from my problems!" I feel like screaming at there faces for not understanding.
"Kiara Amanda Noel! I'm taking you home for the day even if I have to drag you! There are matters I need to discuss with you anyway nonetheless!" My aunt screams in my face.
"What about Josh! What is he going to think when I up and leave the school for a while?" I discuss rationally.
"You'll have to text him when we get home. Now, get your ass moving to my truck or I'll spank it right here regardless of who sees!" I almost laugh at the principal's face at my aunt's language. Almost, if she wasn't being a bitch to me! I storm out of the office, make sure to slam the door, and sprint to the car. I may be an introvert, but I am quite sporty. About five minutes later my aunt opens her door and sits in her seat. She doesn't start the car but I don't care. We can sit here, in the parking lot, for hours for all I'm concerned.
"Tiara. Look, I'm very sorry that I had to take you out of school. I know how much it means to you. But there is something more important to talk about. I had to make up that excuse to get you out of school. It's going to be hard for me to tell you, and I know for a fact you're not gonna believe me." I continue to ignore her, although I am intrigued.
"Kiara. You're the lost princess. Heir to the throne."
I don't think my mouth will ever close again.
