Charlotte blinked in shock, what else did he expect her to do? She wasn't equipped to become a queen that ruled over the people in the kingdom -- she wasn't equipped to become a mate to a man she barely knew.Much less the King of the Kingdom of Zeus.
Her emerald eyes shifted over the grandiose throne room, the gold within the room gleaming as the sunlight streamed in through the large stained glass windows. Dante stood in anticipation, waiting to see what the woman would say — it would determine how his kingdom was ruled for the rest of their lives.
Charlotte took a deep inhale of breath, her heart thumping in her chest as she lifted her eyes to meet with his.
"What do you want me to say? That I'll be your queen, no questions asked?" Her words came out in a taut tone. Never in her life had Charlotte spoken back to someone, actually stood up for herself.
He was her mate, he couldn't hurt her no matter how hard he tried.
Dante was taken back by the accusation of Charlottes words. "Of course I want you to be my queen," He took a step towards her, his heart thumping in his chest.
She took a step back.
His dark eyes seemed to swarm with hurt, many knew that being denied by their own mate was one of the most painful things they could ever feel within the universe — Dante never realized how heartbroken he would feel after being around Charlotte for barely an hour.
Charlotte clasped her hands together, her fingers rubbing over her knuckles as she gazed at the man who stood a few feet from her.
"No offense, Your Majesty, but you said you didnt want me, so why do you want me now?" She questioned, the emerald color in her eyes hardening as she dropped her gaze from his own.
Dante bit his lip as he looked down, he assumed that this would be easy. His mind swarmed with what he could say to the woman, just to make her stay and listen to what he had to say, what he could offer her. That was only if she agreed.
Charlotte never imagined that she would see the King nervous, as if he were so perplexed that he was lost for words.
She tilted her head, her hair falling to frame over her face, waiting for something, anything from the man that her soul was paired with. Dante had no idea what to say, all he wanted was to have her agree to stay at the Palace with him.
"You're right, it had never been a priority for me to find you," His blood pumped so hard he could hear it in his ears, Charlotte shook her head, interrupting the King.
"If you had never wanted me, why did you take me here? To hide me away from everyone? A peasant paired with a King at birth must be a scandal you don't want to reach the press." Charlotte accused coldly. She had allowed Mason to step on her, over and over — she wouldn't allow Dante to do the same thing.
Each of her words felt like a needle stabbing though his soul, she wasn't wrong. If word got out this soon that she was his soulmate, their world could go into chaos. Dante shook his head, stuffing his hands in his pockets as he eyed the marble flooring.
"I never said that I deserved you, Charlotte. Now that you're here, I cant let you leave." He answered somberly, Dante didnt dare to raise his navy eyes to meet with her striking emerald ones.
"You're not going to let me leave? That's a crime, Your Majesty, you know that." Charlotte fired back, her hands clenching together as she eyed his black hair. Dante let out a sigh, his hands leaving his pockets as he looked up, meeting her gaze.
"I make the rules of this land, αγάπη. I do as I please." Chills went down Charlotte's back as he spoke, her lips closing in a fine line as she glared at him.
Her mind swarmed with rebuttals, her heart thumping solidly that she believed that even he could hear it. She wasn't going to let him step on her, she had allowed too many to do so in her life.
"I will not be your little play thing, Your Majesty." Charlotte spit out angrily, her tone stinging with every move of her tongue.
Dante's navy gaze turned into one that looked dark as night, swirling pools of obsidian. His gaze was intent on her face, while Charlotte froze in fear.
In a blur of movements, Dante had crossed the length that separated the two souls, his heart thundering as hers was.
All he wanted to do was kiss her.
Everything within the room seemed to slow as his hand reached out to cup her face, his lips planting solidly on her own.
