Everything Yoongi does, he seems to do it wrong.
He's accepted that a long time ago. It's not a big deal. Namjoon tells him that he doesn't automatically fuck everything up as soon as he looks at it. Namjoon says that a lot. Yoongi pretends he believes him. He thinks he knows that Namjoon knows he's full of shit.
The only person Yoongi doesn't want to disappoint is Jihoon. His mother lost her job. His father can't work. Jihoon is never going to be able to go to college, god, he's barely able to eat.
Yoongi takes matters into his own hands. He saw some kids near the basketball court at school, and he's spoken around enough to know that they sell drugs. Meth, mostly. It's the most popular drug in Daegu, after all. Most popular drug in Korea in general. It brings in a lot of easy cash. Yoongi knows how to talk to people. Yoongi can do this. He's just turned thirteen, nobody will hire him in a legitimate job, and this is his only option.
He's good at it. He breaks into their gang easily, and he starts moving larger and larger quantities. Then he gets into talks with Chanyeol. At first, Chanyeol just wants him to move bricks like usual. And then, after a while, Chanyeol tells him about a way he can make a lot more money with a lot less risk. No more bike trips across the city with four bricks of high-grade meth in his handlebar basket. No more risk of being shot by tweaking fiends, so strung out that they can't distinguish reality from delusion.
Yoongi jumps at the opportunity.
It's not great work. Yoongi hates it at first. A bunch of sweaty older men ogling him, it's not something he enjoyed.
It's something he had to get used to, though. The money was easy enough to make, despite having to deal with creepy assholes."You're awake." V admonished.
Yoongi is disoriented, but yes, he's awake. He blinks a few times, and the room came into focus. V's study. He must have blacked out.
"What happened?"
"Not sure. Not used to seeing so much blood?"
"Let's go with that," Yoongi answered.
"I went ahead and called you off of school."
"Why?"
"Didn't figure you'd be up for quadratics after helping us eliminate a nuisance."
Eliminate? Yoongi couldn't believe he'd just heard that come out of someone's mouth in reference to another person.
"So I didn't hallucinate that."
"No. Sorry."
"Sorry? Why are you sorry?"
V didn't answer. Yoongi didn't much like that.
"What do you have to be sorry for?"
"If I hadn't come to get you, then you wouldn't have had to kill someone."
"He deserved it, right?"
V looked at Yoongi like the validation he sought was tragic.
"Right," V confirmed.
"So it's fine, then."
"I suppose."
Yoongi heard a cacophony of footsteps in the hallway. Right. He'd forgotten about the quartet of snarky valets V had in employ. V got up to open the door, and Jackson handed him a pristine crystalline glass of water and a bottle of Advil.
"Anything else, sir?"
V turned to look at Yoongi, seemingly wordlessly asking him the same question.
"I don't know. A blanket?" Yoongi shrugged.
"What he said."
"Yes, sir," Jackson replied, turning on his heel and running off with more purpose than he had ever seen Jackson do before.
"Cold?"
"Yeah. Tired. This morning was a bit much."
"No doubt," V answered, pulling off his suit jacket and hanging it on a nearby chair. "Felix and Changbin can be a little... overzealous sometimes."
"Overzealous, huh? Yeah, that's one way to put it."
V sat on the edge of the couch, running his fingers through Yoongi's hair. Yoongi knew it was absolutely batshit to be happy that V was paying attention to him like this after what had happened earlier, but he couldn't help it. Yoongi was half-asleep before he felt V wrap an impossibly soft duvet around him and lie down next to him on the couch.
Yoongi remembered reading about how people in stressful and emotionally tormenting situations will tend to sleep to avoid having to deal with their issues. Yoongi hoped that wasn't the case with him.
It was rare for a pawn to make such an important move, but a pawn had just taken out the bishop. The game was stacked, and the outcome was in anyone's court.
Yoongi just hoped he wasn't being set up for a loss.Yoongi woke with V still wrapped around him, and for once he felt safe. He had no idea why, but it just made him feel better.
There was just something about V that Yoongi couldn't resist, as cliched and stupid as it was. This wasn't a shitty rom-com, after all. But Yoongi had never had someone pay attention to him like this, had never had someone willing to buy him everything he ever wanted and do anything for him. This was strange and foreign. This must have been love, no? Of course, it was.
Yoongi knew he may have been being willfully naive, but he didn't overly care. Everything would work out well in the end, wouldn't it? Of course, it would. V might have been a bit of a nutcase, but Yoongi was an exception. Nothing bad would happen, obviously. Sure, maybe it wasn't the smartest decision in the world to be dating a member of the mafia, but Yoongi was equally as involved in fucked-up illegal shit now.
V was dragging Yoongi down with him, but Yoongi found that he didn't really mind.
"You're awake."
"You seem to say that every time I wake up."
"It's unexpected. You seem like the type of person to sleep for twelve hours straight."
"Guilty as charged. I used to, not so much anymore though."
"You're a busy person."
"A very busy person."
"Full-time work, school..." V pulled him closer, nose pressed to the side of his head. "I don't know how you do it."
"Clearly, through sheer stubbornness."
V was close again, so close that when he laughed at Yoongi's reply, Yoongi could feel V's teeth on his neck. He'd be lying if he said he didn't like it.
"I mean, I feel like everything you do is out of sheer stubbornness."
"You aren't wrong."
"You're really strong for someone so young, you know?"
"Am I?"
"Yeah. Not a lot of people could go through what you have so far, you know."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah. I can't believe someone like you ended up in all of this."
"It wasn't because I wanted to. It was either this or starve."
"I know."
V rested his head on Yoongi's forehead. This was closer than he had ever been with anyone else. V was right there, and Yoongi wanted to close the gap like he should have done so many times before.
"Might be a little early to say this, but I love you," V said. He looked Yoongi in the eye before finding the couch a lot more interesting.
"It is a little early to say this, but I love you too," Yoongi answered. V's smile was the best thing Yoongi had seen all day.
V leaned in closer and then stopped halfway, apprehensive and hesitant. For once, Yoongi was not going to let an opportunity slip. Before he really thought twice about it, Yoongi's hands were on V's neck, pulling him down to connect their lips.
It was the best decision he had never thought through.
Yoongi didn't know why he'd done it, but he wished he'd done it sooner. Just as V moved to deepen the kiss, a flurry of footsteps and a sharp knock at the door interrupted them.
"God, what do you think they want now?" V asked.
"Couldn't figure out how to open the fridge."
V snorted, and got up to answer the door. Not before kissing Yoongi again, which neither very much minded.
"What is it?" V asked a rather concerned looking Jackson.
"Sir, Jeon Jungkook has arrived, and he looks fucking pissed." Jackson hissed, looking to Yoongi only momentarily.
"How badly?"
"Like you spat in his face and called him a bitch."
"Shit," V said. "Okay, shit. This isn't great."
"No, no it is not." Jackson heartily agreed. "What the fuck did you do?"
"If I told you, I'd have to kill you."
Jackson let out a chuckle before realizing that V was not making a morbid joke, he was telling the truth.
"Should I let him in?" Jackson asked.
"Might as well. I can't get in any more shit than I already am."
Yoongi shoved himself deeper into the couch, trying to hide. Jackson didn't even have to go and get him, because, within ten seconds, Jungkook was storming into the study.
You didn't fuck around with Jungkook. That was the number one rule of being involved in the mafia: do not fuck Jeon Jungkook. He didn't like being fucked over, and you would pay in blood.
"I know what you did." Jungkook said, looking accusatorily at V. "I know what you fucking did, and I-"
"Jungkook, calm the fuck down. What did I do?"
"Bogum is gone. I had Tao find his fucking corpse floating in the Geumho river. Tell me how the fuck your best friend ended up missing several teeth, fingers, and a dick after going missing for four days."
"How would I know?"
"Don't play with me like this. What did you do?"
"He was an informant," V said, simply. Maybe someone got to him before I could."
"You forget you don't run anything," Jungkook said, and if looks could kill, V would be dead.
"Father said-"
"Father this, Father that, he doesn't run anything anymore, either. I'm in charge, Taehyung, and whether or not you accept it doesn't make it any different."
"I accept-"
"Clearly, you fucking don't. We aren't kids playing dress up anymore, or teenagers following each other around. Real, actual lives are in the palms of my hands, and you can't just kill someone you don't like."
"He tried to-"
"Shut the fuck up. You forget I don't have to listen to you, don't you? You don't get to call shots. You don't get to place hits, you don't get to do anything."
"I'm fucking sick of you telling me what to do!" V shouted, seemingly just pissing Jungkook off more.
"You're my younger brother. You don't get a say in what-"
"Quit fucking calling me your younger brother. I'm not your brother. I never have been and I never will be."
"Shame we share the same father, then, isn't it? We're related. Get used to it. You have no authority, either. The next time I catch you doing something like this, you're going to be the one in Geumho river."
"Oh, I'm so fucking scared. You're never going to do it. You've told me that six times. Admit it, you need me because you can't run this show on your own."
"I can do perfectly fine on my own."
"No, you can't. Because you're a fucking idiot-"
The sharpness of the slap across the face V received was loud enough to echo through the room. Yoongi supposed that he did deserve it, but he'd never seen someone get hit so hard before.
"I don't need your guidance, you're younger than I am. You don't control shit. Quit acting like you do." Jungkook snapped. V didn't acknowledge it, he was too busy being in pain.
"If I have to tell you again, it'll be the last thing you ever hear."
Jungkook turned on his heel and left with a slam of the door.
"God, he's an asshole," V muttered, and Yoongi could sympathize. When V took his hand away from his face, Yoongi could see a bright red welt already beginning to form.
"Jesus, he really smacked the shit out of you."
"Thanks for the assessment."
"He's an even bigger asshole than I previously thought."
"Surprise, surprise. The figurehead of the mafia is a fucking cunt."
"Who would have guessed, right?"
"Exactly."
"God. I'm sorry you had to see that fucking mess." V said as Yoongi pulled his face closer to look at the welt. Yoongi couldn't imagine having that kind of animosity towards his brother. V didn't even seem to want to believe they were related, and Yoongi could understand why V was so upset.
Yoongi looked at the mark on V's face, and if he hadn't seen Jungkook backhand him, he'd have thought V got clocked with one of the books lying on the desk in front of him.
"That really doesn't look good."
"Really? Because I thought it would be a really stunning addition to my face."
"Why are you two so angry with each other?"
"Because he's a fucking nutcase."
Yoongi raised an eyebrow. Obviously, everything was Jungkook's fault. Naturally. V sounded like the brattiest younger sibling Yoongi had ever encountered. He didn't know that it was possible for someone to be that much of a bratty annoyance. Yoongi sighed. It would be rude to say that Yoongi could agree with Jungkook's decision to backhand him, but he did.
"And why is that, do you think?"
"I don't know. He's always been self-absorbed and douchey. I fucking hate him."
V seemed to have a dislike for a lot of people. Yoongi took that with a grain of salt.
