Adriana was shocked to find out that she was related to this unpleasant man, but she didn’t dwell on that, she was more hurt to find out that her parents were dead. When she was younger she always had this dream that her mum and dad would turn up at the orphanage and scoop her up into a huge hug. She dreamed that they would take her away from that place so that they could live together in a little house somewhere far away from the rest of the world. In this dream it was just they, a little brother and a kitten.
Even through Adriana had grown out of this dream a couple of years ago it still broke her heart to think that it was completely impossible now.
“What’s going to happen to me?” Adriana asked them. Hermione looked at Draco uncertainty.
“Adriana you killed 32 children, but you are underage and didn’t know you were doing it so that will all be taken into consideration.” Hermione said gently.
“But I didn’t kill them, I didn’t touch them!” Adriana exclaimed.
“Adriana you did kill them. You are a witch; just like us you have magical blood running through your veins. But as you are only 10 you have not received your Hogwarts letter yet. When you turn 11 you will receive a letter with instructions on how to go to a school that will teach you how to control your magic. You do not yet know how to control your magic which is why those children were killed but you will be taught how to control it so nothing like this ever happens again.” Draco said.
Adriana tried to wrap her head around everything Draco had just told her. She couldn’t be a witch! There was no such thing as magic. But if anything was going to make her question that it was the events of that day. So if what these people were saying was true then that made Adriana a murderer. She hadn’t meant to hurt them; she didn’t want them dead; she just wanted them to stop laughing at her.
“Am I going to be put in jail?” Adriana asked, her voice filled with fear.
“No. You are going to come and live with me.” Draco said simply.
“What? Draco you can’t just take her home with you!” Hermione hissed.
“Yes I can, she is my cousin, my responsibility. If she doesn’t come home with me now she could turn into the next Voldemort, and I can’t let that happen. I don’t want to be on the dark side again.” Draco said. Adriana didn’t understand what they were talking about, but she didn’t care. All she cared about was the fact that it sounded like she was getting away from that orphanage.
“Granger…” Draco started, but this earned him a stern glare from Hermione. “Fine Weasley, gather a team of aurors and go back to the orphanage, this is going to need a lot of memory modification. I’ll take Adriana home with me.
“What about Astoria? How will she feel with you bringing her home, she has just had a baby.” Hermione asked.
“She’ll understand, I know she will.” Draco said.
Hermione then rushed off and Adriana was left alone with her cousin.
“Right, well let’s get going then.” Draco said awkwardly, walking towards a large fireplace near them.
“Copy exactly what I do.” He said. Draco then grabbed a handful of green powder from a small tub beside the fireplace and stepped into the fireplace.
“Malfoy Manor.” He said clearly, dropping the powder, and then he was gone.
Adriana stared confused at the empty fireplace, how was she meant to do that too? She didn’t know how to do magic yet! But she did it anyway; she placed her trust in her older cousin and copied him.
“Malfoy Manor.” She shouted. Suddenly she was spinning very fast; she felt like she was going to be sick as she went round and round at an alarming speed. Then she felt herself fall face first against a cold, hard floor.
