Phil loved the glow in the dark stars that littered his ceiling. Call him a child, but they were so magical and he loved staring up at them. He just really loved sleeping under the stars.

But there was something Phil loved more than the stars on his ceiling. Much more actually.

Dan.

It was hopeless he knew, Dan was his best friend, his everythingas a companion, but then also his everything. He just loved him so much his heart flipped whenever he saw him smile and whenever Phil caused that smile, well, everything felt right.

Sometimes Phil would lie awake and wonder how it would feel to lie under his stars with Dan, talking about anything and just being so in love nothing else mattered.

Just them and the stars.

But until Phil could find a way to tell Dan, it would just be him alone underneath his galaxy. Alone, and hopelessly in love.

It was a night like this where Phil was just staring up at his sky, imagining Dan smiling beside him, when he had a perfect idea. But for it, he would need a lot more stars.

His plan wasn't the simplest he had to admit. He had had to sneak out when Dan wasn't paying attention to buy the many packs of 'childish objects'- as the cashier had told him, not realising Phil wanted them for himself- and then smuggling them back in without Dan suspecting a thing.

Then came the hard part.

Phil needed to find a way to get into Dan's room and actually stick them up without him realising. And that was hard when Dan was either in there or the lounge.

Which meant Phil had to devise another plan. A plan so genius that even Sherlock Holmes would be astounded.

Okay that was a lie. His plan was easy: ask Louise to find a way to get him out the house. Which she had done surprisingly easily, her voice even with a knowing smirk in it.

It was probably because Phil had told her before how much he loved Dan or something.

Now Dan's room was free, Phil walked in and dropped the piles of stars he had been carefully adding tack to on the bed before grabbing a handful and standing on it, reaching up and pressing the stars on firmly.

It took a lot longer than he had hoped, and his back and neck ached after, but when he switched off the lights he grinned and lay down on Dan's bed.

The words were spelt out clearly, a few spare stars dotted around them and it looked really good, Phil was quite proud really.

I'm in love with you

He accidentally got caught up then, rolling on his side on Dan's covers and sniffing appreciatively, before wrapping himself in his duvet and burying his nose in the pillow.

He even fell asleep for about half an hour, dreaming about how amazing it would be if it was Dan holding him, but was saved by his phone ringing loudly.

Louise had called him to make sure he was done as Dan had just left her house and Phil jumped up and quickly sorted out Dan's room, giving one final look to the ceiling before he left and went and lay on his own bed, grinning giddily.

He had finally told him. All he had to do was wait.

Phil was an idiot.

Waiting was stupid, and tiring, and stressful, and almost painful really.

He had forgotten the fact that Dan might reject him- the main reason why he hadn't said anything before- and was now stressing out heavily in the fact he might have ruined their friendship.

But it was now too late to do any thing.

Dan had come home and only then had it dawned on Phil. There was no getting out of it, Dan would see the stars and then Phil would get his reply. Simple as. He just hope it would work out well.

It hadn't worked. At all.

When he had woken up he had gone through to the kitchen as usual, got a bowl of Dan's cereal and sat in the lounge, his knee bouncing restlessly as he ate, switching on a random cooking programme to try and take his mind off it, but with that combined with the cereal it just made him feel sick.

He ended up leaving the cereal (hoping Dan wouldn't shout at him for eating it when he shouldn't) before getting dressed, waiting for Dan to wake up.

When he finally did arise he gave Phil the usual morning greeting and instantly went to grab some food.

"Morning." he grunted simply before heading into the kitchen, leaving Phil sitting frozen, his heart stuttering.

Had Dan seen the writing?

He came back in and sat down, eating his cereal, looking at the TV in amusement.

"Did you sleep well?" Phil even tried asking, and Dan had just replied 'yes' casually, like nothing had happened.

He hadn't seen the writing.

Or he was pretending it wasn't there.

Oh god, Phil had messed up.

He left the room and quickly called Louise, asking if he could come to hers as things hasn't worked and he needed a hug.

She had of course said yes, but she didn't seem to be down beat about it, which was weird as usually she would have been all over him, fussing like a mother.

She had told him that things would look up soon though.

Stupid generic phrase.

Phil came home late, mildly cheered up by Louise's actions and said hi to Dan before going to his room.

He stayed there for most of the evening, feeling sorry for himself and also telling himself how stupid he had been to get his hopes up.

He needed an early night.

However, as he turned his light off and looked up at his stars, something was different.

Words Phil definitely hadn't put there were scattered in his constellations, and his mouth fell into a smile.

I'm in love with you too you muppet

Phil's heart was flying.

Just then, there was a knock on his door and Dan poked his head in, smiling sheepishly.

"Hey," he whispered. "Can I sleep with you?" He asked and Phil just nodded silently, huge grin plastered on his face as Dan slid into bed beside him, winding his arms around Phil and planting a gentle kiss on his shoulder.

"You thought I hadn't seen your stars," Dan chuckled quietly. "How could I have missed them?"

"I thought maybe you just didn't want to say anything because you didn't feel the same way and didn't want to make things awkward," Phil said and Dan shook his head.

"Turnip head. How could I not love you?" Dan asked and Phil blushed, closing his eyes happily before he felt a soft breath against his cheek, then a soft kiss was pressed to his lips.

He couldn't help but smile.

"I love you Dan," Phil said once Dan pulled away and he grinned.

"I love you too." He said, leaning back to kiss him sweetly.

When Dan pulled away a few seconds later Phil couldn't help but cuddle him closer, feeling the boy he had loved for year's breathing on his shoulder and watching him start to fall asleep. Slowly, then his breathing was peaceful and his eyes closed, and he looked so beautiful.

This was just what Phil had always wanted.

Phil smiled as he looked down at the boy cuddled into his side. He smiled as he looked up at the newly arranged stars on his ceiling.

Phil liked sleeping under the stars. But he liked sleeping under these ones the best, mainly, because he finally had Dan to stare at them with.
