What is a Spirit Board?

There is a lot of hear-say out there about the spirit board, most of which is false or blown out of proportion. Everyone sees those ghost shows on TV around the spooky season, people telling their stories of how the Ouija board brought evil into their lives or how by chance they summoned "the devil".

You may be looking to use your ouija board to connect with a loved one, investigate spirits in your home or find out if those noises you've been hearing at night is a negative ghost or not. Whatever your reasoning, make sure your intent is positive and that you come off as respectful.

Using an Ouija board is simply a way to communicate with the dead and nothing more; much like a telephone.

Acquiring a Board

First thing is first; for those aspiring to use the Ouija board you will first need to aquire one. These boards can often be found in stores around Halloween, enticing people to try them out. Lots of people buy Ouija boards around the spooky season and plan to take them to said haunted locations to "mess around" or poke at the ghost.

It's best to buy your ouija board new, advoid picking one up at a yard sale or taking one in from a friend. Ouija boards can hold the energies of the past, following one of the laws of magic, imprint magic. it's best to start off with a fresh slate.

Crafting your Own
If your low on funds you can also make your own Ouija board yourself! They can be as simple or as creative as you'd like.

1.  First you'll need a base for your board; use wood, paper or whatever material you'd like to use. You can print out a pre-made board of your liking or make your own. It can be a rectangle, circle, square or any shape you desire.

2. Next add letters and details; carve or burn them into the wood, use stickers, pre-made letters, paint or draw them on. Add yes & No, Goodbye and any other words such as Hello, Maybe or Not Sure.

3. Last is your planchette or hand tool. This can be made from wood, cardboard or any material that you'd like. You can even take a CD and put soft felt furniture stickers on the bottom to help it glide. Just make sure to carve out the looking glass hole in the center.

Buying Them

One can always go out and purchase a ouija board if crafting one isn't for you. There are a few places that sell them year round, but it's pretty easy to find them around the spooky season.

Halloween stores often carry them September through October.

Your local witch shop may carry them year round or more often in September through October.

Your local Walmart may have them in stock year round or September through October, either in store or online.

Etsy may have them for sale year round or September through October online. They may offer a verity of custom or unique options.

Amazon and other online sellers may also have them available year round or September through October.

Using The Board

If you've obtaining a board of your own through purchase, you'll notice that included in your box is the Ouija Board, planchette and a small guide of instructions. You can just go ahead and toss those instructions now.
