:awsten:

"so, looks like awsten got a ride from a certain new boy today." grace said.

"i needed a ride and he was sitting in a parking lot near my house." i said looking at my phone. otto took it from me and looked at it.

"geoff, you have his number?" otto was reading my contacts. great.

"dude, give me my phone." i said.

"why?" otto laughed.

"give me the damn phone." i snapped. i got up and walked away.

:geoff:

i was at lunch when i saw awsten get up and storm out. he looked upset so i went to go find him. i went into the bathroom and saw him on the floor. he was hugging his knees and crying.

"hey." i said quietly.

"hi." he looked at me.

"you okay?" i asked.

"no."

"do you wanna talk about it?" i asked, sitting next to him.

"not really."

"okay." i said.

"why are you nice to me?" he asked. "you've probably heard the stories about me already."

"i have." i said. he frowned. "but i wanted to see for myself. you aren't that bad."

"you're just saying that."

"i'm really not." we both looked at each other.

"my dad," awsten said. "he throws stuff at me. this morning it was a glass vase. that didn't end well." he touched the bruise on his face.

"i'm sorry." i said.

"it's not your fault, i mean it's mine. he hates that i'm gay." i saw a tear roll down his face.

"it's not your fault that you're gay. you didn't choose."

"are you gay?" he blurted out. "shit, that was rude.. i'm sorry." i laughed.

"it's fine." i said. "and, yeah. i am."

"cool." awsten said.

"yup." i said.

"we should get to class.. the bell just rang." awsten said.

"i know, i heard it." i said.

"where are you going?" he asked.

"mr. way, math."

"you're in that class? me too." he said.

so we walked to class together.

:awsten:

geoff sat next to me in math. i looked over at him and smiled. my phone keep going off because otto was texting me.

otto- dude
otto- are you okay?
otto- what happened??

ottowood: answer me

i sighed and put my phone down. i started taking notes on what we were learning. i just wanted this day to be over.

"hey geoff." i said, meeting him at his locker.

"hey." he said smiling.

"so, do you want to hang out or something?" i asked.

"like a date?" he laughed.

"not really, i just want to get to know you more."

"okay." he said. "i can hang out after school."

"great." i smiled.
