It was a little late in the evening when Dakota, came home all dressed up, in a red dress and her black converse, with the biggest smile on her face
"Hey Kota," Maria greeted her as she walked up the step, Seth was helping her weed her flowers when Dakota walked up the track
"Hey ma," Dakota greeted in reply before coming over to see what they were doing
"Did you have fun with Allen?" Maria asked, ruffling her chrysanthemums slightly, Seth's head snapped up when his grandmother asked that
She was with AJ? He met her eyes and he quickly looked away, going back to yanking out the weeds from the flower bed, pretending they were strands of AJ's hair
"Yeah, we just went for an early dinner, it was really nice, he's so sweet." She fawned and Seth bit his tongue and grabbed a rose stem and pressed his hand tight around it, feeling the blood drip down his wrist
Dakota was looking at Maria and she casted a glance at Seth and then did a doubletake when she saw the red droplets on his wrist
"Seth!" She yelled and went over, and quickly uncurled his hand from the thorn and she quickly sucked the blood off and wiped the spot before taking off her scarf and wrapping his hand
"Are you mad boy?" Maria asked, lightly slapping the back of his head
But Seth couldn't hear anything. His mind was filled with images of Dakota and AJ. Images of AJ with his arms around Dakota. Images of Dakota kissing AJ. Images of them holding hands. Images that haunted him
He got up and went inside the house, without a word to his grandmother or Dakota. He went inside and sat in his room. He let his head fall in his hands and rolled his eyes, followed by a huff of frustration.
"Bug," he heard and he looked up, seeing his grandmother looking back at him with a sad smile and a plate in her hands
"Hey," he greeted, pulling up his feet on the bed to make space for the plate
"Kota made cookies, your favourite, double chocolate," she told him, putting down the plate of perfectly made cookies in front of him
She made cookies? How long had he been in here sulking?
He told his grandma to thank her for him but she didn't move, she stood there, giving him a skeptical look
"You like her don't you?" She asked, arms folded and smirk on her face
"Who?" Seth asked, biting into his gooey cookie and holding in the moan as the chocolatey warmth filled his mouth
"Sophia from Golden Girls," she replied and Seth gave her a confused look and she rolled her eyes
"Dakota Seth, Dakota. You like her don't you?" She asked and Seth bit his lip
"I have a girlfriend back in LA," he told her and she smiled like she just figured him out and knowing his grandmother, she probably had
"That wasn't my question boy, I asked if you liked Dakota," she repeated and Seth sighed and chewed his bottom lip lightly before giving her a nod
"Ha! Your grandfather owes me $50," she told him and his jaw dropped
"You bet on my feelings?" He asked and she nodded casually
"Look Seth, I know you liked Dakota since before now. You tried to forget her with that Sandra girl but it doesn't work that way. You and Dakota are meant to be together and that's the truth, forget everything for awhile and just do things to make you happy." His grandmother advised
"First it's Sarah," he said and she waved him off
"Second-" he began with a sigh
"It's not that easy." He told her
"Yes it is," she insisted
"You're just making it hard bug," she continued, hand on her hip
"Figure out what you want Seth. Would you want to keep asking what might have been while you're with Sandra?" She asked and Seth didn't bother to correct her
"Or would you want to see where this thing with Dakota goes? And be with someone you're actually happy with." She asked
"I've never seen you happier than when you're around Dakota," she commented and Seth bit his lip because she was right.
He, himself, couldn't remember the last time he had smiled so much.
"Get your act together and allow yourself to be happy for awhile," she said running her hand through his hair
"Else I'll tan your hide," she warned, playfully smacking the back of his head and walking towards the door
Seth rubbed his head and bit another cookie
"Sassy granny," he muttered
"I heard that," his grandmother yelled and his eyes widened before he chuckled and laid back on his bed, hand bent behind his head and a thoughtful look was on his face
He needed to figure out what he wanted and how he was gonna go about it. But for now, he would just enjoy these cookies, because they were goddamn delicious
