Sar let out a deep sigh of relief as he stepped out of the float. Massaging his head, he walked quickly towards his room. He simply couldn't believe that the Aurei had asked him go on yet another parade. And for what exactly? Simply because it had been eight Murhei since the citizens of Farhua had seen him. And -of course- it was his twelfth durhai.

His day of birth. He had wanted to see his mother and they had complied. With one request; that he go on a parade. He quickly stepped through the door frame, not bothering to shield his thoughts -for no one could enter the room without his explicit invitation.

"You know," an old voice croaked from the corner, "it wouldn't hurt to give me a hug."

"Right," Sar groaned as he turned towards the voice, "and next thing I know, I'll be thrown across the room."

She chuckled as Sar winced at a distant memory, "Or I'll get kneed in the gut."

"That was quite fun Surya, even you cannot deny that."

"Yes I can," Sar stooped to give her a hug. "I will continue denying it until you forget. Mame."

"Yes, Faiha. It's me," She let out a chuckle and patted his soft brown hair. "You didn't think that they would break their promise did you?"

Sar rolled his eyes at the unthinkable, "No Mother. I was raised to trust those who they approved of."

"But you were born with powers, and they were not granted to you by anyone," Sar stood up to his full height -which was not much taller than his mother's- and stared at her in surprise because of her supposed sacrilege. "It would not do you good to forget that my son."

"I won't," He swore, not truly meaning it. "I promise."

"You look well my son. Exactly like your father right down to your-"

"Uncommon brown eyes, most people have the usual green, including you. The only type less common is having moon-eyes. I know Mame," He reminded her, none too gently. "You have told me many times."

The awkward tension grew quickly now that the mother and her son had nothing to speak of. Both their minds swirled with questions, but alas, their relationship was not at all like it used be, so silence reigned supreme.

"Excuse me Savior," voice called into the room- knocking on the door for good measure, "Just a few moments with them and we'll send you on your way. And They said to bring your mother with you!"

Sar exchanged glances with his mother. That was new.

They stepped out, following the nurse in a starched uniform -which he noted to be made of cotton, an expensive, extravagant and undersupplied resource.

He was the only one to have had an audience with Them.

The Aurei had only been seen by his eyes. They had told him everything he needed to know of his powers and taken care of him when he needed someone.

The Aurei were his everything. They loved him and he, well, he loved them as best as he could. And that was the way it was supposed to be. Until she came.

        Kalu.

Describe her in one word? Not possible. In many? Then you would need all the time in the world for Sar to spit out words of her, her, treachery.

Yes, Sar supposed that was one word; treachery.

        Another? Devious.

        Weak.

Hungry. Here Sar paused as he remembered her ravenous hunger that often led him to starve just to quench her insatiable thirst. If only his mother had seen fit to keep him then.

Disgustingly beautiful. With her black hair and moon-eyes, many boys on the street liked her and felt compelled to give her some of the niggardly bits of food they could scrounge from the garbages.

He despised her. The Aurei had assured him that she wasn't special. She had no powers- unlike him, the only powered person in existence. But they pitied her. So he helped her, for their sake.

She told him he was special too. The only one for her. She pretended to love him, and he pretended that her words meant more than they really did to him.

He fooled her into happiness, just for the Aurei.

They trusted her, so when they urged him to inform her of them and their presence, he did. She was perfectly fine with both him and the Aurei.

Until one day she betrayed the Aurei. She told him to run away from them. But she didn't seem to understand that he wouldn't leave them.

        He couldn't leave them.

So she screamed her lies as she fell. She screamed them as her web of deceit -a concoction of her own making- consumed her. Leaving nothing of her behind other than one last phrase.

        "I loved you."

        He had smirked, "Sure."

Then he turned his back and walked away. After all, who could give him the love he needed other than the Aurei themselves?

Not his mother- who had abandoned him.

        Certainly not Kalu.

"She," he whispered to himself as he followed the nurse, "was no match for my power."

Yes. They are no match for you are they?

Who are no match for him?

        The Weak.

Alright, my first attempt at a short story. This is like 5 chapters long. Yup. That's as short as I can manage. Well, give me some feedback! I would love constructive criticism for this. So, yeah.
