God, what did you do wrong? It wasn't like him to act like this; Lev wasn't the type to just ignore people out of the blue, nor was he the type to suddenly forget about one of his friends. Right?

You had hoped so, otherwise that would mean. . . Well, you're not quite sure, but you know it's not going to be good.

The tall boy hadn't talked to you much this week. Sure, you knew both you and him were busy with schoolwork and volleyball, but even then he'd still find the time to hang out with you at lunch or something. Instead, he would only say a small "hey" as you occassionally ran into each other in the hallway. You admit that even though Lev can be annoying at times, his boisterous and rambunctious personality is what brings excitement to your school life and what motivates you to come to school everyday.

You sigh as you lay on your side, clutching a pillow to your chest. You think about all the possible things that you did that would make him mad. Was it that time you taunted him for being such a clumsy guy? Was it that time you slapped him too hard on the shoulder when you got too flustered at his teasing? Or was it that time that you accidentally spilled his drink all over his uniform while play fighting? Either way, scenarios one after the other popped up into your head.

You stared at his icon on your messaging app.  "Lev Haiba is online," the app read. You waged an internal war. Should I go confront him, or not? You think to yourself. Maybe I should. . . But not over the phone. These kinds of things should be said face to face. Sure, it's scary, but my awkwardness will not get in the way of our friendship!!! With this resolve, you turn off your phone and leave it on your bedside table to let it charge.

You spend a few more minutes staring up at the ceiling. I miss him a lot. . . I guess it takes losing something to appreciate its true value, huh. That was true, you never really thought how warm his smiles made you, or how he'd call out your attention as he tried to do a cool move like his senpais, and how he'd try to act cool in front of you after he was a total flop at it. His clumsiness was surely endearing, that was something you couldn't possibly deny. It made you just want to embrace him in your arms and protect him from anyone who said he isn't a precious bean pole.

A heat washes over your face once you realize the thoughts you've been having towards your best friend. Why am I like this, dammit?! You groan and bury your head into your pillow. I'll still talk to him about it tomorrow, though. . . Even with these feelings.

With that, you fall asleep with thoughts of him.

Tomorrow finally arrives as you rise early to get to school. You're slower than usual in your usual morning routine, as you make sure you look neat and presentable for the confrontation you scrutinized earlier that evening. Maybe if I look nice, he won't notice how nervous I am for this.

You head to school, thinking about what would happen later that day. Would he actually be mad at you? Or would he just laugh and say it was because of school? You hope it was the latter, since you can't stand anyone being mad at you, especially your best friend.

Before you know it, the day passes by in a breeze and it's time for you to finally talk to him. You easily spot him in the crowd, as he's not too terribly hard to find being over 190 cm tall. Your heart pounds in your chest as you slowly make your way over to him. For a second, you thought of backing out, but it's too late as you had already grasped his wrist and caught his attention.

"[Name]-chan?" He says quizzically. He looks you in the eyes, confused. You stare back for a second, but then quickly look away as his gaze made your heart go a mile a minute. Without saying a word, you drag him with you as you speed off to some secluded part of the school. Once you made it there, you let go of his wrist.

"Geez [Name]-chan, for such a shortie you're pretty fast," Lev teases, trying to make the situation a little lighter.

You don't notice his insult as you frantically try to keep yourself from melting into a puddle of nerves right then and there. Your heart is beating harder than ever before. Why is he so damn CALM?!?!

Finally, you muster your strength to finally form words. "Lev-kun, I-I wanted to, uh, I wanted to. . . t-talk with you," You couldn't bear to look up and see his probably disgusted reaction. Why am I such a socially awkward potato?!? Now he's gonna think I'm an illiterate, good-for-nothing, scum that should be wiped off of the face of the earth---

"O-okay," He says, two simple syllables break your train of thought. You slowly look up from your shoes and see his rosy face. He's scratching his neck and looking away.

You take a deep breath and finally say what you wanted to say. "I-I dragged you out here because, because I wanted to- to ask if, if there- there was anything I-I-I did wrong to- to make you avoid me lately," You exhale, feeling slightly relieved. You play with a lock of hair in your hands and hope he wouldn't mind the jumbled words that left your mouth.

He comes a little closer. You gulp, feeling your legs start to weaken. Gently, he lays a hand on your shoulder. "I didn't mean to ignore you, [Name]-chan,"

This surprises you, and you look back at him. "Really?" The whisper leaves your plump lips.

He clears his throat, feeling hot all of a sudden. He surveys your appearance, looking so docile, submissive, breathless; it made him want to go wild. Your eyes were gleaming, awaiting an answer.

"I-I just. . ." He looks at you again. This time, he didn't choose his words, and just let whatever he felt leave his mouth. ". . . I think I fell in love with my best friend,"

In an instant, you felt your world shatter. He loved someone else? It makes sense. You didn't deserve him, he was too good for you anyway. You look down at your shoes once more and bite your lip, trying not to cry.

"O-oh," You croak. He hears the disappointment in your voice, and it lingers in his ears for longer than it should.

"W-wait!" He exclaims, grabbing you by the hands just before you turn around and leave. You stare with your glossy eyes, on the brink of letting your tears fall. "What I meant to say was. . . I love you, [Name]-chan! You're my bestest friend!"

Lev feels you throw himself into his arms, and you both tumble to the ground. You bury your face into his chest, relishing in those sweet, sweet words. "Good," you say, your voice muffled through his shirt.

He sits the both of you up, with you on his lap. He brings you in for a sweet kiss, a clumsy one,  but a sweet one. You feel all the love and tenderness he's stored up for you come pouring down in one simple gesture of affection.

You two spend what feels like forever just cherishing this precious moment, your hands running through his silver locks and his own hands wrapped around your waist, pulling you closer to him.

Finally, you pull apart just to breathe in some air. "If I didn't have to breathe, I'd spend forever just kissing you," Lev says with a chuckle.

"Baka," you whisper in return, following up with a giggle of your own. "I love you too."
