He couldn't tell what was racing through the mutts mind.

Every time when exposed to Joey he picked up on some hidden depth.

Relay, at this point he didn't have to try to live up to the learn something new every day adage.

Seto Kaiba had known there was more than meets the eye, to what seemed like a brainless blonde.

Because, one of the many ideals Seto strongly disagreed with, where coincidences.

According to some; he really didn't pay them much attention, he'd had enough of being someone's sole focus it, hadn't ended well for Ol' Gozaburo.

Seto had first learned about coincidences when a tall, shifty, and suited man came to the orphanage. His countenance firm his mustache pretentious.

No, that was wrong he had first learned about coincidences from her. From the house caretaker, whose job was to watch over them.

She quickly took away his belief in miracles.

Miracles where when the social workers were there, when he had a nice rounded meal, clothes with no patches and the other boys left him alone.

A nice coincidence this all happened when it was inspection time.

Miracles his young mind had though were Gozaburo.

How naive.

If he did believe in coincidences, which he obviously didn't then why?

Why had all of this happened? Was it advanced karma? In that case he needed to speak to Nemesis about what qualified as revenge.

Further more, another why, should he be spotting Joey at a place he just so happened to frequently traffic be any different ?

Now sitting here beside the little fool Seto couldn't for the life of Mokuba figure out what to say, so he settled for common small talk.

That might have been a key sign he was in trouble.

Seto abhorred small talk, it was painful, pointless and served to make him want to commit acts of minor violence like, kill important company heads.

Why are you here ?" Joey for once didn't bark something out loudly.

The statement probably seemed a lot less accusatory and suspicious in pups pea brain, then it did coming out his mouth .

If anything Kaiba was the one with a right to paranoia not, the cheaply clothed boy beside him. He knew who was out to get him and if he didn't he could easily find out.

Not that he couldn't see the use in plain clothes. He'd heard ripped things where all the rage. Joeys must be so in style what with all the tears in his attire. Looking at the faded blue fabric, those holes were open and authentic. Why, would anyone pay. Hundreds of dollars for jeans with holes in them?

"Your missing the point big bro its because, they are holy," Mokuba had whispered as if in great reverence, the cheeky brat Seto fondly thought.

He carefully scanned Joeys face for clues. There was a difference from the boys usual slouched position, he was sitting mostly up right and unbent.

Wheeler appeared relaxed, interesting word appeared for there was a tightness about Joey's shoulders and his fist sporadically clenched the bench edge so hard his knuckled turned white.

He seemed to be expecting jibe. So it naturally came as no great shock when Seto said in a some how lacking in usual bite,

"It's a rare sunny day , the goose are lively, the breeze is pleasant the clouds foreshadowing and the park was public last time I checked ?"

The blond wrinkled his nose in an adorable confused fashion. That part he did expect , confusion had been his end goal.

What didn't expect to garner a ill disguised cough matched with a ill disguised wince, for his trouble.

The great thing about wheel was if you caught him at the right moment his out ward expressions always remained honest. Joey's face was both his biggest tell and his strongest defense.

Joey's current expression morphed into one that definitively relayed his thoughts on the matter.

Which at the moment consisted of questing of Kaiba's sanity

Wheelers scrunched up face and furrowed brow practically screamed; Geese?!? What was so great about annoying waddling and honking ? I cant see it.

But instead Joey dryly settled for "how.... quaint " and played with the frayed ends of his shirt.

Seto blinked he was having trouble stopping a twitch that had formed at the corner of his mouth.

How troublesome, he would have to get the physician to check it out.

Honestly, what was with him to-day having random muscle spasms while talking to joey .

Terribly embarrassing...

He blamed it on .. the CEO floundered for a bit searching for a figure to place fault upon that wasn't Joey. (Because the mutt would never ever affect him this much.)

The geese he blamed it on the geese.

Satanic birds, they relay where making a terrible racket.

Joey twiddled his thumbs mouth in a tense line a few times he looked about to say something but thinking the better of it kept his silence. The obscurity of the usually brash and forth-write blond was painful.

Dogs worked best when there owners gave clear commands.

Now was his chance the perfect excuse to leave and an invitation to follow.

"I know a coffee shop near here " he ventured.

Wheeler laughed. He also gripped towards his chest with a wince and shake of his gravity defying hair.

The difference from earlier was palpable. This  time it's a true laugh. It was a touch bitter and forced at first and Kaiba felt flash of anger at this mocking.

Till he realized the blonde was laughing at the absurdity of the situation not him.

Besides Joey actually had a rather nice bark.

The kind that made the beast lay down still and quiet listening. The kind that slowly and warmed his insides with its honest tone.

The was a lot you could get from that kind of laugh.

Then he started laughing, it began even more embarrassing if possible than before. It began as a snort, then grew into a low chuckle, before finally morphing into a full-blown sound hardly recognizable if not for time spent with his little brother. He watched wild blond hair and warm chocolate brown eyes and he shivered, not from the breeze.

This..Whatever this thing was with Joey was anything but brotherly .
