"Charles!!" I scream and run as fast as I can. "You know I'm going to catch you sooner or later Imani!" my best friend laughs behind me and before I know it, I feel hands wrap around my tiny waist.
He carried me kicking, screaming, and laughing all the way downstairs and into the palace lobby. He lets me sit in one of the chairs and smiles playing with my hair.
"Charles?" I whisper and he frowns looking at me. "Why are we whispering?" he asks in the same tone.
I bit my lip and play with my fingers nervously. "I don't want to grow up."
He sighs and sits next to me raising my chin. "Why not sweetie?"
"Because I..." I trail off and he kisses my forehead. "You can tell me."
I nod and take a deep breath. "Because I don't want to be Queen." I whisper looking straight in his eyes. He looks back at me nodding.
"What's wrong with being the queen, Imani?"
"I just want to be like the other girls outside!" I tell him and walk towards the huge windows. "I mean, look at you! How does it feel to be a grown up?"
"Well I'm not a grown up yet-"
"Yeah, yeah I know... just 10 years older than me."
"Exactly, Imani you're only 7. You don't have to worry about that right now." he says softly and I look down the window sadly. He kneels to my level and turns me around to face him.
"Hey." he whispers softly as he fixes my tiara and plays with the curls of my afro. "You'll be alright sweetie. Besides, I'll be with you all the way."
I sniffled wiping my tears away. "Really?"
"Really, really." he smiles and carries me throwing me up in the air. I laugh falling back into his arms. I close my eyes and hug him tightly, "thanks Charles."
"Anytime." he sets me down and I turn around to go and find my mother. "Oh, and Princess Imani?"
I roll my eyes at the 'Princess' and I face him. He smirks knowing I don't like it when he calls me that.
"For the record... you'd make a lovely Queen." He shrugs and I smile.
I turn to walk away when I hear a loud scream. My eyes widen in horror and my heart starts pounding with fear as the screams become louder.
Charles runs to me and carries me immediately holding me close. "Let's go back to your room." he says and starts walking towards the stairs but I have this strange feeling telling me to go The Grand Hall.
"Charles-"
He ignores me and keeps walking. I try to move away from him but he holds me closer. "Imani what are you-"
"I have to go to The Grand Hall." I tell him and try to free myself from his grip. "You can't- "
I hear the scream again and my eyes widen, 'Go.' I hear in my head making me gulp as I look at Charles.
His eyes widen immediately setting me down. "Princess Imani your eyes-"
I close them trying to calm this strange feeling. "They're blue aren't they?" I whisper trying not to focus on the screams.
I don't need to open my eyes to see him nodding, "I have to go." I tell him and without waiting for a reply, I run to The Grand Hall.
