♡ Whispers, bangs and clicks

You had a line. One that separated the happiness from the sadness. And to even consider that Newt and Tina were a mile past the line, and way into sadness, would be the hugest understatement. You see, the two of them had done nothing but trigger your sadness ever since they laid eyes upon each other. New York, 1926. You and Newt were traveling in hope to find more creatures when bang, Tina appears. Literally.... Newt banged into her, sending them both tumbling to the ground. And then they just clicked. Funny right? What starts as a bang continues with a click. Two completely different noises come to join. And you? Well, you were merely a whisper in this entire situation.

As I said, you had a line. And they had crossed that line the second they decided to spend the entirety of five days blanking you to be with each other. Usually, ignorance didn't bother you. But from Newt it drove you crazy, to say the least. It was something he'd never done, even from the first years of Hogwarts. And since meeting Tina, it was clearly something he was willing to experiment with. Your greatest fear being that he'd like it and stick by it.

You were staying in the Goldstein apartment with Queenie and, to your great misfortune, Tina. You'd been there for two weeks now, the meal ahead of you marking the fourteenth having spent with them. You twirled your fork around said meal, blanking any conversation around you. This didn't pass unnoticed by Queenie, a legilimens, who took it in herself to roam freely around your mind. You could almost feel her company feeding on any thought she could find whilst she also fed on the strudel ahead of her. Yet this didn't bother you too much. Over your stay you had grown a bond with Queenie and you loved her company, even more so than Newt as it were currently. You trusted her thoroughly and felt as though you had known her for the entirety of your life. Although she kept giving you unwanted knowing and sympathetic glances. The very glances that you eventually felt you didn't have the patience for and that gave you the sudden urge to stand from your seat and...

"I think I'll just go and get some fresh air..."

Newt gave you a confused glance. The fact that he couldn't even figure out that something, or much rather someone, had been bothering you for the past two weeks was beyond you. You quickly averted your (e/c) eyes from his hazel ones and to the ground before walking out of the room. The first place you thought to go being his case, of course.

His case was a place of natural comfort and homeliness. With Every step you took further into it a new story was unraveled. Whether that story be told through the passing by of a creature or a tree stood beautifully in the midst of it. It had the capacity to hold a mixture of happiness, excitement, safeness, warmth and endless amounts of joy to make any spirit a bright one. And so after seeing a Bowtruckle walk by with a huge frown patterned onto its small face, showing the opposite mood in which the case usually holds, you grew rather concerned. You quickly stepped beside the creature and crouched down to the ground, positioning yourself so you could see him properly. You gently picked him up and placed him on your hand, his full attention now on you.

"Tom? What ever is the matter?" You asked the creature in a sympathetic voice.

He squeaked in a sad tone as if to say the equivalent of "It's Newt... He doesn't realise but all he ever seems to do is favour Pickett. They're always together. He  has a love for him that he could never have for me. The spare bed kept warm in Newt's pocket proves that"

You instantly knew what his stuttering meant, giving him an apologetic glance.

"Oh Tom, it's ok. I'm absolutely certain that Newt loves you as he does Pickett" you sigh a little "I just wish he'd be the same with me. It took me two years to fall so madly in love with him and not even two weeks for him to do the same with Tina. How is that fair, Tom? And he even has the audacity to ignore me now. And it's awful because I love every part of him. His freckles, his hair, smile... you name it. And all I get to do is watch as he slowly falls out of my fingertips and into those of Porpentina Golstein's" You spat her name, wishing that it was once in which you'd never met. Or to be more specific one that you wished you and Newt had never met. You gave out a sigh of sadness and let the silence around you act as a shield of comfort, letting you know that nobody was to disturb you anymore. No Tina, no...

"I- is that true?"

...Newt. You shot up from your cross legged position on the ground, jump-scared by his sudden appearance. To your horror, it was Newt who'd decided to look for you. Also to your horror, he'd probably heard every single word that you had just blurted out.

"Oh...Newt, how long have you been there?"

"Long enough. Y-y/n, is that true? What you said? You meant that?"

You let out a slight sigh, ready to get it off your shoulders. Keeping it secret had always been an unnecessary weight to carry and he'd already heard too much anyway, so there was really no point in hiding it. "Yes... I meant it. Every word of it"

"Oh y/n..." he slowly walked over to you, making your heart pace quicken. "I am so sorry, for making you think that... for making you think that I don't appreciate you. Or love you. Because I truly do! I could just never find the right time to tell you. And Tina? She was just helping me to try and find that time. I planned on it being now, actually. I was going to follow you into the case and tell you... that I love you and I want to make you mine. So I guess this is me doing just that... Telling you. Sure it hasn't quite gone as I'd planned, but I... well I..."

You now fixated your eyes into his hazel ones, not daring to break away for even a second in case you'd miss something. Perhaps if you'd miss the words that were still processing into your mind. He'd just told you after all this time that he loves you. And that Tina was just there to help pair the two of you, not to do the opposite. You stood in silence for a moment, until you suddenly wrapped your arms around Newt's warm and freckled neck. I guess you could say that this was your way of confirming that you were willing to forgive him and happily spend your future with him, even though he hadn't officially asked.

"Newt... I love you" you spoke, head buried into his chest.

"And I you" he stroked your h/c hair, occasionally leaving little kisses on the lining of your forehead.

And that was it. That was the story of how you went from being Newt's best friend to lover. In other words, that was the story of how you went from being merely a whisper in Newt's ears to being both a bang, click and so much more in them...
