Classroom 2-A, where the hell is it?

(Y/n) (L/n) was currently wandering the halls of Ouran Academy, searching for the classroom listed on her schedule. The girl was beginning to get desperate as she scanned each room's sign. Why in the world didn't they give new students a map?

As she continued to move down the halls, (Y/n) blocked out the confused and judgmental stares of the students around her. She had made sure to show up early to make sure that she wasn't late for her first class --thank god she had made that decision-- and most of Ouran's student body was still wandering the halls of the massive academy. While the boys she passed looked at her with confusion, the girls usually sent her looks of judgement. Unlike the rest of the female students, (Y/n) did not sport a puffy, cream yellow, turtlenecked deathtrap. It wasn't that the girl didn't like dresses, but no one, no one, could force her to wear one of those. Instead she was dressed in a boy's blazer, paired with with a black skirt and leggings. Perhaps it was because her father knew that there wasn't a snowball's chance in hell that she would wear the girl's uniform, but he had managed to convince the school's chairman that she should be allowed to wear something else. To be fair, she was considered a so-called 'commoner,' and if the few commoner students admitted to Ouran couldn't afford the school uniform they were permitted to wear an outfit of their choosing. Well she could afford it, she just wasn't going to wear it.

Lost in thought and eyes trained on the classroom signs as she moved down the hall, (Y/n) didn't even notice her impending doom. A boy shorter than herself was moving down the hallway towards her, and as (Y/n) squinted at a nearby sign and walked forward she collided with the other student. Reacting quickly, (Y/n) whipped her head to look at the person she had just run into. Her right foot moved back to steady herself, and for a split second her body tensed into a defensive stance. But she quickly realized it was simply a student, and she reached out a hand to steady the boy, hoping no one had noticed the fact that she had looked ready to fight him for a moment.

The boy before her wore a surprised expression, big brown eyes widened slightly. He was shorter than herself, with brown hair that matched his eyes and a friendly look about him.

"I'm so sorry," she said quickly, taking a step back as soon as she was sure the boy wouldn't fall over from the force of their collision.

"Don't worry, no harm done," the boy told her, giving a warm smile that surprised the girl. She had yet to see a speck of friendliness here, so this caught her off guard a bit. Beyond that, there was something about this boy that seemed warm and friendly in general. He didn't carry the same self-centered air as many of the students here. There was something else too, his features seemed, well, quite feminine.

"I should have been looking where I was going," after a moment of thought, (Y/n) stuck out her hand. "I'm (Y/n) (L/n) by the way." She offered her own smile, though she doubted that it was as warm or friendly as the boy's.

"Haruhi Fujioka, but you can just call me Haruhi."

"Nice to meet you Haruhi," for a moment silence filled the air between them. (Y/n) reached a hand up to rub the back of her neck, feeling rather awkward as someone who had no idea where they were going. "Is there any chance you could point in the direction of class 2-A?"

"Today we have a new student joining us. She recently transferred into the school, so please help her if she needs any assistance getting to know Ouran Academy." My teacher then turned toward me. "Miss (L/n), please introduce yourself." I nodded, nervously clenching my hands behind my back before turning to face the rest of my class.
