"And for tomorrow, read until chapter ten and write a two page summary on the events of the book so far. This must include an analysis of the foreshadowing that has been used, and what that foreshadowing indicates may happen in future chapters."

Our instructor then closed the book in front of her and cleared the blackboard of that day's lesson. Just then the clock on the wall hit noon, signalling that it was time for lunch. I watched as my classmates filtered out of the room, most of them heading to Ouran's cafeteria for lunch rather than eating in the classroom. Letting out a small sigh, I turned my head to look through the window, staring out at the elegant grounds below. The weather was that of a beautiful spring day, the sun shining down from a bright blue sky that was dotted with small fluffy clouds. Maybe I should eat outside again today, I thought, watching as a few students exited the school building out onto the graveled paths below. My classroom was mostly empty at this point anyway, and my last lunch out on the grounds had been pleasant enough.

Grabbing the food I had brought from home and moving away from my desk, I headed out onto the sunlit grounds.

Settling on an unoccupied bench, I had just begun to open up my bento when approaching footsteps drew my attention. Looking up to find out who was headed in my direction, I spotted a familiar looking brunette, who gave a friendly wave as we made eye contact.

"Hello (y/n)," The approaching boy called, giving me a warm smile as he drew near, "Mind if I join you?"

I looked at Haruhi with unmasked surprise, unsure why exactly he was interested in eating lunch with me. I was silent for a moment, brain flitting through the possibilities of why he could be here, before realizing that I was staring rather awkwardly with what was probably an embarrassingly stupid expression.

"Oh, uh, sure," I said after a moment, quickly regaining my neutral expression and scooting over to make room for the brunette. "I thought you would be eating lunch with the host club," I added, hoping to find out why he was here.

Haruhi gave a small shrug, setting his own bento in his lap and opening it up. "I usually do, but sometimes it's nice to take a break," He offered a sheepish smile. "They can be a bit much."

"No kidding," I muttered under my breath, thinking back to yesterday's encounter. Perhaps they meant well, but the host club seemed quite overbearing, and I couldn't imagine wanting to spend my free-time hanging around with them. Looking down at my lunch, I decided that eating was a better option than trying to drag out the conversation. Haruhi did the same, and a comfortable silence fell over the pair of us. It was almost kind of nice, having someone to eat with. Sure we weren't talking much, but the silence between us wasn't awkward, and it felt a little less lonely than eating by myself on a beautiful spring day. After a moment I glanced curiously at the boy's meal. It was obviously homemade, like my own, and I wondered why he, like myself, opted for this instead of the more convenient cafeteria food. "Do you usually bring your lunch from home?" I asked, hoping to find out a little more about my new lunch partner.  Haruhi, mouth full, gave a little nod before swallowing.

"The food they serve here is pretty expensive, I can't really afford to eat that every day."

Couldn't afford it? So that meant he wasn't like the majority of the students here: entitled heirs from rich households. I wondered how he could afford to go to school here then, perhaps a scholarship of some sort.

"What about you?"

The question caught me somewhat off guard. Of course it only made sense that he would return my query, I too was eating lunch from home, but I didn't usually talk about my home life with people.
