The door bursts open, disrupting the silence of the lonely apartment. You set the shopping bags on the countertop and removed your coat. Patrick shut the door gently, groused about the door being innocent and asking what did it ever do to you. You search the bathroom and in Hayley's room. She was not in either room. Patrick took the liberty to lock the chain link on your door, in case if Hayley came home early.
"Wait, is Joe not home?" he asked.
"No, he said he was going to be a his friend's house doing Lord knows what," you answer.
"Okay, then," he said.
The door opens and Joe walks into his new apartment. He came home sooner than you anticipated. He doesn't see you two right away for he was on the phone. Locking the door behind him, he walks into the kitchen to grab a glass of water. His friend was talking to him on the other end of the line. He slumped on the couch saying a few things in between pauses. He laughs at something he heard and casually looks to his right. Then he does a double take. His phone was still near his ear but he wasn't listening. Instead, he was standing in front of his window, mouth agape.
"What are you doing?" Joe shouts at his little sister and his best friend as if they could hear him.
"Joe? Hello? You okay there, man?"
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" he shrieks. "GET OFF MY SISTER!"
"Joe, what is going on?" the person on the other end asked full of concern.
"I'll call you back," Joe said before hanging up.
He rushed over to your apartment and pounded the door with his fists. "(Y/N) Trohman! Open the door right now!"
"Shit," you mutter. Patrick stumbles to his feet and collects his shirt from the ground as you re-button your shirt. "If we act natural, he probably won't suspect a thing."
"Patrick Martin Stump! I know you're in there too!" Joe says. "I saw what you were doing through the window. I saw what you were doing to my sister! Now, get out here!"
"Maybe, it's time," Patrick sighed.
"Time for what?"
"Time to come clean and tell your brother the truth."
"Yeah, you're right. We're adults and we should be responsible," you admit. "Wanna escape through the fire escape?"
"(Y/N)," Patrick scolded.
"Ugh, fine. I'll adult for once," you roll your eyes and unchain the link. Your attitude and tone changes when Joe enters the living room.
"Hey, big bro! What brINgs yOU HEre?" your voice cracks upon greeting him.
"You know damn well why I'm here," he replied, sternly.
"Yes, we know and-"
"Can it, Stump," Joe barked and turns to you. "How can you keep this from me? My best friend and my sister?! I cannot believe this!"
"Well, we kept our mouths shut and hands to ourselves when you were around," you reply like the smart aleck you are.
"I mean, why did you keep your relationship a secret?"
"We didn't think you'd approve since you're always saying how none of your friends are good enough for your little sister, which by the way is very rude because one, I'm not just your little sis," you tell him. "Two, I'm my own person who can make her own decisions, and three, we did not tell you because we needed to know if what we have was going somewhere. That's what we told the others."
Only a few seconds later, you realize you threw your friends under the bus.
"Hey, guys!" Pete greeted as he walked into the apartment behind Hayley with Andy and Dallon trailing. Right on cue.
"Others? As in they knew but not me?"
Everyone who just walked into the living room froze in their positions and stared at the three of you. Dallon and Hayley looked at each other in sheer confusion.
"Know about what?" Hayley asks.
"In our defense, we figured it out on our own," Andy told Joe.
"Yeah, I was the first one to do so," Pete bragged.
"Weird flex, but ok," you comment. "But yeah, they found out on their own. We just made them promise not to tell you."
"Way to throw us (them) under the bus," Andy and Patrick said in unison.
"We did that because like I said before, we wanted to make sure this thing was going somewhere, and I think it is," you continue after rolling your eyes at them.
"Why is that?" Joe questions.
"Because I love you," you turned to Patrick.
"I love you too," Patrick smiled. He held your hand and the two of you faced Joe again. His demeanor changed entirely
"My best friend and my sister," Joe states with a big smile. "Well, if that's how you really feel, then I shouldn't stand in the way of your happiness. Besides, if there was anyone who I thought was great for you, it was Patrick."
"Ay! What's wrong with us?" Pete whines.
"Do you really want an answer to that?" Joe challenges.
"No, I do not," Pete replied.
"I'm not done with y'all, yet. You all knew and didn't tell me?"
"Well, they made us not tell you with good reason and really, it wasn't our place to tell anyway," Andy reasons.
"Guess you're right," Joe agrees.
"Alright, now that we've got this exposed, how about we let these lovebirds get back down to business?" Pete smirks.
If looks could kill, Pete would drop dead on the spot.
"Hey, hey, hey, I'm just talking here. He's the one doing your sister," Pete raises his hands.
You cover your face with your hands and sigh. Andy gently pushed Pete out the door and told him to stop talking. A huge weight had been taken off your's and Patrick's shoulders now that your relationship is out in the open.
"Wow, this is so much better than a Lifetime movie," Hayley comments.
Yes, flipping finally! The trilogy is now complete after what? Two weeks? Big thank you to FRIENDS for giving us such iconic scenes we'll remember for centuries.
