Twenty seconds left on the clock before midnight. Pete was passing little confetti poppers and sparklers for the incoming new year. He handed you a sparkler.

"So you're going to tell him?" he tells you.

"Best way to ring in the new year, isn't it?"

"Definitely!"

The countdown started.

Ten.

Nine.

Eight.

You linked your arm with Patrick's arm and leaned your head against his shoulder. He gave you kiss on the temple of your head.

Four!

Three!

Two!

One!

"Happy New Year!" every single one of you shouted. Poppers and sparklers went off. Couples kissed and people ate grapes. After exchanging hugs and wishing each other happy New Years, you pulled Patrick to the side and cleared your throat.

"So there is something I need to tell you and I've waited until tonight to tell you because what a better way to bring in the new year," you began.

"I think I have an inkling as to what this something is," he smirks.

"Well, you might be right," you say. "Sometime around September, we'll be parents, 'Trick."

"I can't wait!"

Happy New Year, y'all!
